    Hi,

I recently posted about my cat Jasper, who I sadly lost on December 30th. Through that night I woke to discover my remaining 12 year old Cassie was playing with a mouse in my bedroom! I did manage to get it outside but it wasn't in too good a state, although still alive.

However, the following morning Cassie ate, but then wasn't interested in food in the evening, and literally at teatime she leapt of my lap and vomited food and yukky gungy stuff up all over the carpet.

Yesterday morning she ate a very small amount of cat food, and vomited 20 mins later. So I didn't give her anything until 4pm, and then only a spoonful of boiled chicken. 3 hours later I gave her a spoonful of cat food, but she certainly wouldn't have eaten anymore.

Today she's had literally a third of a foil tray of cat food, and isn't really interested in her food at all tonight. I am feeling very paranoid due to losing Jasper, especially as one of his symptoms was loss of appetite. I intend to try and check Cassie's mouth but it all seems a bit of a coincidence after the mouse 'event'! Anyone have any experiences on this to share????

I'm so sorry about your babies. Cassie sounds like my Milo. He'd go out and eat mice and moles and come home and throw up several times. Might be partial blockage of mice fur and own fur. I recommend giving her some fur ball remedy medicine (makes everything go through) if she is not puking up other colored stuff which may indicate health problems. When in doubt, check with your vet. Milo was sickly for 2 weeks following ingestation of fresh game. He'd puke daily and each time he'd puke less and less of that nasty yellow mucousy stuff. Make sure Cassie is still drinking and going to the bathroom. Milo still ate fine even though he was sick. Don't let Cassie go for more than 2 days without eating. She will go downhill fast. Its actually good that she's vomiting. It means she's getting rid of vile substances that her body can't handle. Mice and rats are disease carriers so I'd definitely keep a very keen eye on Cassie. I'm so sorry about Jasper.

On second thought, if the mouse was barely alive, Cassie couldn't have eaten very much of the mouse. She may be puking due to too much excitement. Hopefully, she'll rebound soon. :m10:

    Thankyou for your quick reply!

Since posting I have tried offering some boiled chicken, cat food, to no success. But, Cassie has eaten some tuna now and seems ok so far.

I've had such a terrible year and a half as I had Jasper ill, and also another cat ill together. I have lost them both in that time. Poor little Mabel was 8 when I had her put to sleep - she had a mouth disease. It got to the stage where I was injecting her with steroids, the maximum dose and she still went anorexic. I learnt from that experience, as I know I waited too long to make that dreaded decision.

Losing Jasper (aged 12 and a half) has been so traumatic for me. I had him and Cassie since I left home, and since then had and lost 2 other cats. (amongst other types of animal!) Cassie has always been such a healthy cat, and has only been to the vets twice - both times to have teeth out. She has vomited only about 5 times in her 12 years, so of course when she was sick and lost her appetite I just panicked. I'll just continue to offer her small portions for now, and see how she digests the tuna.

I'm still really trying to accept that I had 4 cats, and am now left with 1 .. the house seems so empty. Cassie is a real fusspot, but during the day she does just go and sleep on my bed which is 2 storeys up, so the ground floor is so quiet. Jasper used to be in and out like a yo-yo!

I intend to just wait until I get over my loss, and then I might consider adding to my family, although I have sworn several times 'never again'! I've had 3 out of 4 cats have pretty rare illnesses, which is unlucky really. Still, today has been the first day since losing Jasper I haven't lost it .. I miss him like mad though of course. He was such a character.

Anyway, again thanks for replying. It's great to know I can post on here ...

i'm so sorry to hear about your loss. it can be a very horrible thing to go through. *hugs*

glad to hear however Cassie is doing better. However if u have any doubts, take her into the vet for a check up. theres always the slight chance the mouse had something that it passed on to Cassie.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
I'm glad you were able to get Cassie to eat something and I hope she continues to regain her appetite. Keep us posted.

So sorry about the loss of your kitty, Jasper.

I also think that if your other kitty doesn't improve, maybe you should take her to the Vet.

My Mittens catches mice and chipmonks and other critters and has thrown up after that, but it doesn't usually continue for very long. I always make sure her food is available to her.

Hope everything is okay. Keep us posted.

Hi, and thanks everyone for your replies.

Unfortunately Cassie has vomited again today. She did keep down the tuna last night, but today ate a few cat biscuits and a bit of meat, and when I returned home a couple of hours later she'd brought it all back.

I'll be ringing the vets first thing in the morning. It's such a worry after Jasper being so ill, but maybe it'll just be something simple and easy to treat. Fingers crossed ...

good luck with your kitty. im so sorry to hear of her vomiting. :( maybe a blood test to make sure its not kidneys...

i wish you the best of luck. let us know what the vet says. i do know that feeling of paranoia. after my kitty otis died in march (he was almost twenty) i got max...who was two months old. max has had chronic diarrhea since that time. i thought he was going to die every day for months....but he didnt. i think it was so close to otis's death, that i still had not recovered from it.

Thanks to all who've replied to my post.

I took Cassie to the vets today, even though she did seem more alert this morning I still made an appointment.

I'm happy to say it seems to be nothing serious, and so Cassie had a couple of shots which should make her feel much better over the next couple of days. Her stomach seemed inflamed slightly, but she seems over the worst now.

    Phew!

    Thanks again

Yes, what a relief it was nothing serious.

Cassie is doing very well now, and being the only pusskins in the house I think she's feeling quite important! And good for her .. she's going to be pampered now! She has a brand new bed which she is very happy with, and it's positioned in her favourite place on the landing over nice warm water pipes!!

In fact, I think her new name should be Princess Cassie ...
