is it safe to put a pictus catfish with a smallish red tailed shark?
what else can be kept with a red tail?
Ive tried keeping platies with her but she attacks them to death.

The red tail shark is mostly only aggresive toward it's own kind. It can mistake other species and attack them and there is always the mean one that will attack anything as with any fish. Stay away from fish with orange or red markings and you should be o.k. but as with any fish keep a close eye on them at first.

I have a pictus and a red tail in the same tank, they seem to get along fine. They'll chase each other once in a while, but neither is ever hurt. If the shark is considerably smaller than the pictus, make sure there are some hiding places for it to hide until it grows some more.
