I saw dremels mentioned in the anal glands thread so I thought I would repost this wonderful guide to using a dremel for dog nails, and how to desensitize your dogs to the noise:

http://homepages.udayton.edu/~merensjp/doberdawn/index.html and then click on the link on the left about dremeling.

yeah, I was thinking the same thing

I don't think my Min Pins would go for that concept at all. Even though the post did say nails. Which even with those my Pins would never tolerate a dremmel being used.

LOL Cheryl...we kinda got off topic on the anal gland issue on that thread and went to nail clipping. Hehehehehehe

LOL! I guess that anal gland reference would be a bit misleading for people who didn't read the thread.

The article does go into how to get a scared dog to accept the dremel on their nails. It has a whole process that you use. The woman who wrote it rescues dobermans and she said every rescue has eventually learned to love having their nails done and they all line up and flop down on their sides in front of her when they hear the dremel start up.

Yup... I had to go read the thread... But stuck that comment in here, just before I went to do it...

I also tried the dremel (I'm a carver) on my Rottenweiler that very day...
She wasn't pleased - and an unhappy Rottenweiler is not something to be pushed too fast... Actually I think the B/F was more bothered than her...

    Four Dogs... :kiss_puppy:
    Two Cats... :qm3:

I Gotta take all the tips I can get...!
