Richie afraid of my hair?

I think Richie is afraid of me when my hair is done. For the past year I have not done much with my hair but pull it back in a pony tail (laziness). Recently, I went to an anniversary party and did my hair. When I went to pet Richie he looked frightened and ran from me. I thought maybe he was'nt feeling well that day and did'nt think much of it.
Lately, I've been doing my hair more frequently and have noticed that Richie runs and hides from me which is very unusual. I picked him up the other day to give him his eye drops and my hair hung down and touched him....he freaked out and scratched the hell out of me! Poor thing.
It finally dawned on me that he has mostly seen me with my hair pulled back over the past year and suddenly my hair is all over the place and probably makes my head look bigger, maybe even makes me look unfamiliar to him. To prevent further stress to him (and scratches to me), I have gotten in the habit of pulling my hair back now before I try to interact with him while I work on desensitizing him to my "fluffy" head.

:m39: thats cute... my cats havent really been afraid of me when my hairs down.. because i to usually have it pulled back, but when its down i cant keep them out of it... simba just stares at me and then runs over and just rolls in my hair and cleaning it etc. till it drives me crazy... everyone else just likes to either chew on it or play in it and b4 u know it its all knotted up soo it goes right back to the ponytail...lol

LOL, Nern. :m39: Any chance we can get a pic of your hair? Even if it's the back side of your head? I just want to see what Richie is making such a big fuss over.

Poor Richie. :m10: Did you put anything different on your hair besides leaving it free? I'd love to see a new pic as well.

Yes, I use mousse which I rarely use when I don't do my hair.

Here is a picture of the back of my "done" hair. I don't have a picture of it undone but it is otherwise about 1/3 the fullness, less curly and pulled back in a pony tail.

A dog I had years ago, when I first had my hair streaked blonde (its dark brown), I walked up the stairs into the apartment and he growled at me and ran away...for about an hour he would peak around the door....huff a little then run away again...eventually he calmed down enough to approach me (this was a dog Id had for about 4 years and had a very close bond with)...he spent about 20 minutes very cautiously sniffing my head....at first I thought he just didnt realize it was me but then I think maybe it was the smell of the peroxide.

Kitties must be like kids. I know a small child can be frightened of a familiar person when they look different. Poor Richie must have thought you were a different person. Is he okay again after you pulled your hair back? :?:

You have very pretty curls and highlights Nern! :y_the_best: I remember 1 of your pics with very long hair. Does it feel like you lost a few lbs. of hair? Has Richie gotten used to your hair style yet?

Thanks for the hair compliments.

Yes, he is fine once I have it pulled back.

Sure does. Last year I had my hair cut (to a little below my shoulders) and layered, it took me a while to get used to using less shampoo. LOL.

I think he's coming around...has'nt run away from me as much over this weekend. But at first he was looking at me as if he was thinking "you look familiar but I'm not really sure". He would hesitate for a momement and then take off running.
