Hi everyone you know its not very often i need advice but i am stumped here.

My mum bought a 4month old Pedigree Rottweiler puppy on friday, Well she is underweight for her age lokks rather skinny, Does not eat like a normal puppy as all puppies in my experience are good eaters.
Well she is not, The previous owner had said the pup was fed warm weetabix on a morning and a cheap canned food with mixer tea time aswell as treats.

Well my mum does not believe in feeding cheap foods so she has bought the pups original food aswell as a better brand of food, She is trying to change her over slowly but the pup does not eat more than 2-3 mouthfuls of her food.

I personally think this dog was never fed cannd food and was only ever fed the weetabix and treats per day, As the owner never gave my mum food for the dog only treats, toys never even had a bowl for her they used a spare cereal bowl.

She drinks alot of water and i mean alot, Her pee has a slight strong smell to it which i know is not usually a good sign, She has already had 2 of her vaccinations and according to the previous owner she has been wormed.
She sleeps alot during the day and comes to life on a night, She was tormented by the previous owners children this is why they had to rehome her, When she is awake she is full of life very bouncy and playful.

She is ringing her vet this afternoon after she finishes work but i wondered if you guys have any ideas or advice on what could be wrong...

I will post pics later today

    Thanks Mike

Most of my fosters don't eat well for the first day or so that they are at my house. I think they are too nervous. Usually on the second day they start eating better.

For a large breed pup, it is better to be on the skinny side. But of course, it sounds like his previous diet was totally inappropriate!

I don't have much experience with puppies, so hopefully someone else will be of more help to you.

when I first got Molly she only weighed 30 lbs. and should have been closer to 40. I won't place blame on her foster mom as Molly had 4 larger brothers and they would take her food from her. The foster mom also fed primarily a home-prepared food rather than commercial food. The commercial food she did feed (Innova) she carefully measured out so the dogs weren't getting excessive calories. But yes Molly was nearly 10 lbs. underweight and a poster child for neglect.
BUT....now having her for 6 weeks I can understand why she probably didn't get to eat. She takes all day to eat her breakfast. I feed her at 6:30am (when I get up) 1/2 a can of NutroMax canned with about 1 cup of dry mixed in. She takes a couple of bites, walks away, takes a couple more, walks away.
People say you should give them 1/2 hour to eat, then pick it up. Problem being I go to work and no one is home. I don't want her to go all morning w/out food cause I fear bloat.
She does manage to finish her food around mid-afternoon.
Get home from work and give her dinner (same as above)....it's still sitting there and it's now 6:33pm. She'll eat it, probably just before we go to bed.
She's put on 15 pounds, but she's still very slim.
I don't worry about that cause I don't want her joints stressed - but she eats like that. The only time she eats really well is after an afternoon of snowshoeing. Yesterday she wolfed her food down like she hadn't eaten in weeks.
