as you all know my pitbull sheeva came up missing not to long ago since we could not find her we thought it would be best to get another dog although it would still be great to get her back we have gotten a 6 mnth old puppy from the pound who was going to be put down soon. She her sisters her brother and mom were found out in the middle of nowhere in the forest. She was very scared when we first got her and even refused to walk even without a leash she has settled in very well though so far is already potty broke and loves my younger brothers and sister , the only problem is SHE CHEWS ON EVERYTHING how can i stop this behavior ive been tapping her on the nose with everything she chews on but it is not helping anyhow i gotta go but if you could help please do oh and if you are wondering she is a german shepard wolf mix!

It's very important with dogs to show them what they CAN do rather than just correcting them for what they aren't allowed to do. You need to calmly tell her no, take the object from her mouth (trade her for something more desirable if she doesn't want to drop it), and then give her something she is allowed to chew on. Have many toys around for that very purpose. Do your best to doggy-proof, so that she can't get to things she is not supposed to chew.

Right you are, Jamiya.....(as usual). Redirect, redirect redirect!!! That was our mantra for the first month or so with Rusty. He was a very anxious little chewer when we first brought him home. So....we were constantly redirecting him from the things he couldn't chew on, to the things he could. We didn't even really have to be that stern with him...he really didn't mean to be bad, he was just really anxious and afraid of being abandoned again. But when we would catch him chewing something bad, we would just say "NO", and then direct him to something okay...like a toy or rawhide.....and then say "Good boy!" and pet him when he would change over to the things that were okay to chew.
Like with so many things with dogs, it takes patience and persistence on your part.....just one more of the many responsibilties of being a dog owner!

She is still a puppy and needs lots of attention. Dogs will chew on anything, but they need to know what they are allowed to chew on, and it is much better to say yes chew on this (rawhide toy whatever) than to say no don't chew on that. If you can't have pretty tight supervision, you should crate your puppy with things you want her to chew on. And sometimes dogs chew out of boredom, so get alot of excercise in, my obedience lady always said a tired dog is a good dog.
