Sad news :(

My grandmothers cat Spunky (the fat kitty that ate 3ft of string a while back) had a stroke during the night and had to be euthanized this morning. I feel so horribly sad for her because she just lost her 14yr old female cat to CRF only a few months ago and has spent a small fortune at the vet trying to get Spunky better over the last few months and now he's gone. My mother called her this morning and found out the sad news. I guess she had just returned from the vet and was crying so hard that she had to get off the phone with my mother.

Since I've talked about Spunky here several times I figured I'd share the sad news with all of you.

oh nern...i would guess your grandmothers grief is very deep. does she want another one??

i wonder what she would do if you brought over a kitty for her, after she has time to grieve??? i think elderly people are much less likey to go out and get a kitty....but maybe she would love another one if it was brought to her??

    just a thought...

Thanks everyone. You guys are the best.

She has her phone off the hook today...I feel aweful. I wish I could bring Bean over there to keep her company for a little bit (not for her to keep though) but I think that might upset her. Bean is just awesome at making people and animals feel better and he is great company.

lynn: I think she would love another cat but I'm not sure she will get one. She is in her 80's and thinks she is too old because she worries about what will happen to the cat if she passes away. She had asked me to take care of Spunky a few months ago if anything ever happened to her and I told her that I would. When she is feeling better I'm going to remind her that I will not let anything happen to the cat if she wants to get another one. Spunky was actually a "gift" to her from my mother and aunt...they knew she wanted a cat but knew she would not get one for herself. So getting her one when she is feeling better may actually be a good idea as long as we know for sure that she really wants another.
