My daughters friends wants to give us her Chihuahua, but it had parvo when it was a puppy @ 8 wks, it is now 9 mos and well. My concern is we have 2 other dogs and I dont want to put them at risk, Is it safe to have a dog after its survived parvo? Is it contagious still?

i think once it is finished with the parvo and all better, it isn't a problem. And your dogs have been vaccinated too right?
I think it is like if you have chicken pox as a kid, you get sickonce, then you always keep the virus (inactive) in your body. there is a sllight risk of reinfection, but most people will never get chicken pox again.
I think it would be safe, but I am no vet.

There shouldnt be a problem, they shed the virus for about a month once theyve recovered. If your own dogs are vaccinated against it they should be fine, if your dogs are over 2 years old they should be fine (in over 15 years I havent seen nor heard of a dog over 2 years old getting it....although Ive read that old debilitated/immune suppressed dogs are at some risk...havent seen any).
There are some long term problems associated with parvo but the only ones I know of/seen has been in Rottweillers and involve heart problems...and thats questionable depending on which vet you talk to.
