Well as you know I have 7 dogs and my newest is my 8 month old female Chinook pup Safire. Now she is a very good girl great bloodlines great health pretty much perfect pup (like I would take anything less) and she's always been a very good girl but lates she has gotten into the habit of nipping. Its weird she reminds me of a sheep dog when she does this. When we have company over she will nip at their heels until they sit down  . I don't give her a bunch of attention when she does thisc just give her a loud firm NO! And of she keeps on nipping i put her in her crat where she cries. She also nips my female SH Zena on the backs of her legs and on her poor face. Safire tends to great a great deal of fun from this. Im really working on the whole if she nips she goes in her crate hoping she will eventually get the hent. i have also started puting her on a leash before company comes over and when she goes to nip i pull her back. I just need advice on anything else i could do to stop her nipping habit. I just want to let it be known she does not nip hard (I have had people tell me) its more likes she's nibbling like she has a foot fetish. Weird pupp  . If anyone knows anything else i can do please tell me .

Safire (even though she's a brat she has promise)

Bump. Can anyone help with the nipping thing? We had problems with Nala nipping, but it wasn't a nipping at ankles kind of thing. We basically told her no in a low calm voice, and I would hold her muzzle shut until she sighed, meaning she had relaxed and given up. It seemed to work eventually, but I also think she outgrew it more than anything.

Nipping at the heels is a form of her trying to get what she wants. CHinooks are also good for herding as I've read about them.

whenever she tries to do this. STop where you are. Stomp your foot and say NO!!!

Also obediance will help. Teaching her to Heel at your side.

When she does this to your other female, she's showing dominance. Not neccessarily trying to "herd" her. Keeping them separated for a while should help. You need to seriously get this undercontrol. Its a dominance issue, and until its controlled, she won't stop.

    Thanks again both of you

Im still working with her with the whole NO to get her to stop nipping people. She and Zena are pretty much seperated right nowsince she's going through training she really doesent have the time to torture Zena and they never work together and when I do put the team together as a whole I keep Zena away from Safire.

Thats a start. Relly try to revert the nipping into something positive. If its truely something she's enjoying doing...you can enroll to have her "herding" trained...if your in a rural area with lots of cattle and herders.
