Has anyone used a Scat Mat before? http://www.petedge.com/shopping/pro...0&iSubCat=0&iSubSubCat=0&iProductID=1033&AS=1

My agility trainer suggested it. It's a mat that produces a little unpleasant shock when the animal steps on it. Supposedly the animal associates the unpleasantness with the location, so even when you move the mat, the animal continues to avoid the place.

I just can't see it working for Nala, unless we left it there all the time. It seems to me that she would learn very quickly that it's the MAT causing the trouble and not the location. She'd probably just jump over it.

Has anyone actually tried one of these?

Each dog has different likes and dislikes, with one we used bubble rap and the other we bought some rubber floor mattes that have little rubber points for wiping your shoes off. Just make sure the points are big and firm, got our at local DIY can buy it by the foot.
I just had and idea, we use to wipe orange peel or lemon on the door frames and table legs to keep pups from chewing them. Thought --what if I took some dry lemon or orange peel and placed it in a cloth bag and then put it on the couch, think they would take it for a toy ? Maybe after a few tastes they would leave it alone ?

This may hurt too much ar maybe cure real fast, but what aout these chair mats. I have on under my chair, on the side that goes into the carpet you put right side up. I just dont know if it was just be a minor pain or something that would really hurt.

Well it sure did not hurt the little girl we baby sit and My wife and I have walked on it in our bare feet. I can't see it hurting a dogs feet more just uncomfortable for them to walk on or lay down on. The mats are not pointy and hard like a nail the one I am talking about is used to clean your feet as you come into your home, it is made of rubber and the points are rounded off and bend under weight. I think it is better then running electricity threw my dog or shock treatments from some mates that are sold. I am not saying to put a bed of nails on your furniture just a foot mat. Also has anyone looked into the various sound devices sold ?

I think I'll just stick with the gate and work on behavior some more so that we eventually won't need it.

We only have the small one on what I call our side of the house and she knows she is to stay off all couch and tables but you know that old saying (when the cats away the mice well play.)So we well be putting her on the other side of the house when we are gone since we just spent over a grand on a new love seat and couch. ( She has a bladder problem. )
