Has anyone heard of congestive heart failure in Pomeranians or any small breeds. Is this a condition that will get better at all? Vet bills are horendous and we need to know if there is a chance of him getting better or would it be better to put him to rest . he is an 8 yr old male

I don't think you should expect a dog with congestive heart failure to recover and have normal heart function. Medications can improve his quality of life for some time, but it's an issue of control, not a cure.

Discuss the outlook and your options with your vet.

Agree totally with shineillusion, special diet and if the dog is overweight getting a couple of pounds off can help a little and dont encourage playing or running. The usual routine is intermittent vistis to the vets for re-check x-rays, a couple of injections and sometimes requiring a stay in an oxygen chamber for a few hours or longer depending on the severity of coughing and breathing difficulties, then home again on oral meds, I know of some dogs that have done reasonably well for a couple of months at a time but others that have gone downhill pretty quick.
