Sharks

I have always been confused about all these types of sharks you can keep home aquariums... I always thought sharks were huge and whatnot and ate a bunch of fish. Well what are all these popular aquarium sharks like?? Like the Irridescent Shark, Redtail Shark, Rainbow Shark, and Black Shark. Do they eat meaty foods and live foods??

But like M_wm said, most "sharks" readily available in the aquarium hobby are catfish or cyprinids.

Silver-tiped shark = catfish
Rainbow shark = cyprinid
Red tailed shark = cyprinid
Black shark = cyprinid
Bala shark = cyprinid
Iridescent shark = catfish
Cigar shark = cyprinid

basically shops give them the "shark" name because it sounds cool. People will go "oh wow a shark" and buy it whereas if it were labeled a "bala catfish" (or cyprinid- but I doubt you'd ever see that listed in a store) people would most likely pass them by. Just like lots of other things, its all about marketing.

black sharks get really big! like 2 foot! dont buy them unless youve got a big tank.
never knew that some were catfish.
also they are not exactly comunity fish i have heard.

 

I agree with tina. Also if you look at them they somewhat look like the shark.
