We have a 5 yr. old female Shih Tzu - she is very timid, frightened of other dogs, basically a snob but I love her dearly - she is a perfect dog in every other way - yesterday we brought home a 9 week old male Shih Tzu- in fact purchased him from the same seller as our female - the female ignores him and hides when he is out of his kennel - she does not have a mean bone in her body so I am sure she won't become aggressive just a true snob - anyone think we can overcome this and that maybe they will eventually become friends :?: Sure would appreciate feed back - :(

I don't know anything about your type of dog... but we have a chi and a collie cross. The chi is a purebreed and he thinks the collie is below him! HE decides if he wants to go outside with her or not. They will become friends I think but it will take awhile. Make sure that your first dog gets things first though.... it is a pecking order type of thing. They will figure it all out by themselves but make sure you don't put the first dog second. It is afterall already part of the "pack" and the new dog has to find its place. After that happens all will be well in your household! 8)

I have as nob poodle myself. She was my second dog but older than my first one. She by no means is best friends with Rufus but she likes him. She actually looked for him the night we took him to the vet. She does not like to sit and cuddle with him. But I think she appreciates having him hear. It will be fine with your older dog. Just make sure to include the older one. They have to get used to each other.

I agree with the others...I think it will just take some time.
In the meantime, whenever you have the opportunity to, reward her for coming out of hiding on her own. Encourage her but do not force her to come out near the new puppy. I would also keep the puppy restrained somewhat at first so that when she does come out of hiding the puppy does'nt overwhelm her by trying to play. Good luck.

Yep, I agree with restraining the puppy. I have a Shih Tzu Bichon mix pup and she goes nuts (jumping, licking, all excited) when she sees people or our other dog. Our other dog is not ready for that yet, she's an 8 year old lab.
We've been keeping them seperated, they sniff each other through the fence....until they are more used to the sight of each other.
I think in time your dogs will be fine with each other.....once the older one realizes the pup isn't going anywhere and it's a new pack member.
