her muzzle was no longer swollen this morning but I figured what the hey...it's payday might as well start the account over again (they know I'll be back and back and back.......) so I made an appointment to have her muzzle doublechecked and her teeth looked at.

Vet looked in her mouth and saw a bit of a tartar buildup on her upper molars and scraped it off (Sadie's such a good dog - banned breed my hiney) and he scraped some tartar off the canines I was worried about also. They are all now white :y_the_best: he said she's not in the least bit ready for a dental right now.

Then he gave her a quick going over and we were talking about how she's been doing lately and he said (and I quote...I'm so excited) that "Sadie is defying all odds"   as she's been tossing her long-forgotten tennis ball around lately.

I love this dog - I'm going to be so flat out devastated when that time finally comes. I'll be able to deal with it as I won't let any animal linger and suffer....but while she's still here she's the best

Hi Mary. I'm so glad Sadie is doing well. She must be such a good dog, for the vet to be able to clean her teeth when she's wide awake. :y_the_best: What did the vet say about her red gums? Just a bit of gingivitis? Hopefully, since he removed the tartar, the gums should be less irritated now and turn more of a pink color. If they still look red and inflamed in the next week, it may be due to the vet not getting all of the tartar removed below the gum line. Or perhaps the accumulation of plaque is irritating her gums and she just needs her teeth brushed at home at least every 2-3 days. Will you let us know how her gums are looking next week?

I'll be keeping an eye on them Chess....so you want to see NH foliage and come brush her teeth LOL she's never enjoyed that at all. I'll have to see if I can convince her now in her advancing years that she wants to avoid any and all dental work

LOL. Well, if the vet can remove tartar from her teeth, I'm sure she would let you brush them for about one minute every 2-3 days. She seems like a very sweet dog.
