Sick kitty could use some help

Our 4 year old kitty has always been healthy till recently, her eating has become less and no interest in eating. ( this is a cat who loves to eat and I had her to the vet in Dec. for her shots and he said she should lose some weight.) She will eat about 1/4 of a friskies wet can. She normally ate one can a day. Also she will not jump up on anything almost like it hurts her . She mostly lays around , but still enjoys to be petted and her belly rubbed. With her un normal behavior and not much eating, I took her to the vet on Tues. She has no fever, loss 3 lbs., and he checked her all over and could not find anything wrong with her. He gave her a prescription Cephalexin . Said if she got into something she should not have eaten this would put her back on track by Thurs. (our cat is indoor only) and take the meds. for 10 days. If still no results then he will start blood work. She looks fine and does not appear sick , it is just her actions and loss of appetite. This is a first cat for us , so if anyone has anything else to add , I would appreciate your help.

Sorry to hear that your kitty isn't feeling well.. I hope the antibiotics help. Is she going to the bathroom normally? Drinking? I use a automatic electric water fountain to encourage more drinking for one of my cats that has bowel issues...he loves the moving water most cats do...keeping your kitty hydrated is very important and can help flush her system. Cats can hide their illnesses very well...
Hope she gets to feeling better soon just keep an eye on her and take her to the vet if she looks worse...

Thanks for your reply. You are right about cats hiding their sickness. Today she did not eat at all. I never heard of the fountain for their drinking . I don't believe she is getting a lot of water. Looks like we will need another trip to our vet. :( Tonight she let me pet her and scratch her belly and she was purring the whole time. Hopefully we will get to the bottom of this. Thanks again.

Does she like any special treats or tuna?? something really smelly cats usually like... I got the fountain at the local pet store was under 50 I believe... they all like it..
The antibiotics should help but they also can make them not feel well...that one is usually pretty to tolerate.. Clavamox I've had many cats allergic to it...but it is one of the best ones...
good luck and keep us posted....

Went to our vet yesterday and they did blood work. Waiting for the results. The tech. showed me how to force feed her with a syringe and their special food. She ate a little of her own food, but still not herself. This morning in her litter she always has #1, no bowel movement. (of course she is not eating), but since we forced fed her and she did try some of her regular food, you would have thought she would have gone a little bit? Could she be constipate? Oh , and she did take about 4 cat treats for me yesterday. Thanks again for any suggestions, as this is our first cat we ever owned. Will keep posted when I receive the blood work results.[/i]

    blood work results today

This morning are kitty ate a small amount of her food. She is still not acting like herself and lying around all the time. The vet. gave me the blood work results today and could only find her white cell count to be low. He said that could indicate a viral infection and her resistant is down while fighting it. Continue on the antibiotic. If she gets worse then I need to bring her back in and possible x-rays to look for tumors in her abdomen . Sophie is not around other cats and stays indoors. She was not yet tested for feline Leukemia . That is the update today.

i would test for feline leuk...at least rule that out. The test is normally about $40 (at least here it is).
    Hope she's improving

I hope your kitty is Ok.

I hope your kitty is much better. The value of blood tests can't be over emphasized in a diagnostic tool for your vet. I know there is a lot of expense involved, but it's worth it.

I had a similar issue with one of my cats and it turned out she needed to be on meds for an under active thyroid. After a week on the meds she started acting like an entirely different kitty.

Friday, was a turn around for Sophie. She began acting more like herself. She started to eat, but not much at one time. She would eat all the cat treats I left her have...It is a big improvement from before, as she had no interest in food. And she is more social. Each day is getting better. I hope it continues. Thank you everyone for all your help and support.
