Small Bump on Lab's leg

    Hi!

Yesterday I noticed a small pinkish bump (about the size of the tip of your pinkie) on my 9 1/2 year old Black Labs leg...just above her knee. It was soft...didn't seem to bother her. This a.m....we woke up and it was oozing something clear and very sticky. (Sorry if you're eating breakfast while reading this). Again she doesn't seem to be in pain....she didn't appear to have licked or chewed it....it didn't pop...it's just oozing.

The vets office won't open for another couple of hours. Any ideas of what this might be? We're worried about our Sadie.

    Thank you!

It 'sounds' like a cyst from what your describing, it doenst sound like an emergency but definitely worth having the vet take a look later today, there is always a concern with any lumps that seem to just appear or have been there for a while but then change colour or suddenly increase in size especially with older dogs and they should always be checked out, try and stop her from licking if shes trying to do that.

Whew! Thank you so much for your advice! My husband took Sadie to the vet this a.m...and it turns out it was an abcess. The vet said that if we had brought her yesterday he would have lanced it. Said the fluid was clear so no infection, but he gave her 7 days of penicillin just in case.

She's taking it like a trooper....no licking...no chewing. Just her happy beautiful self.

We've been so lucky that other than an ACL surgery at age 4...she's been extremely healthy. Maybe that's why I freaked out?

    Again, thank you!!!

    Mary
