Ok, as most of you know i have like 12312309130 platie fry, i was wondering, they are about 4 months old now and they are really small, atleast big enough to be with my other fish in the 29 gal, though are they gonna be small for most of their lives? cause i have one platy who is about 7 month old now and she is still very small. just a thought. any ideas?

In order for fry to grow properly (and quickly) you need to do almost constant water changes. Two or three times per week minimum. Unfortunately I wasn't able to do this with my last batch of guppy fry and I am now having the same problem that you are. My fry are 6 months old but barely 1/2 inch long. Give them as much room as possible to grow in and ultra clean water and they should start to pick up the pace a bit.

I have heard on an online article that most of the time home aquaria breeding for some reason (unknown) results in small fry or disfigured fry.

Well there isnt much i can do with them now in my 29 gal i guess i can just wait, their mom was huge. (length) but since i have put them in there they seemed to grow about .5 of an inch.

Water filtered by Reverse Osmosis... pure water if you will. People use it in discus tanks to lower the pH sometimes.

The could be a little stunted due to crowding. I've noticed that when I keep my african cichlid fry in a breeder box for several weeks, they don't grow quite as quickly as if I where to let them go in the tank (20 gallon).

And the guppies in my pond reach adult size in about 1 1/2 months. But when I had guppies in a 10 gallon, it would take at least 4 months for them to reach 1".

    Do they breed like rabbits?

    Oh yeah.

I started out with a male & 2 females back in May. This is only a fraction of what I currently have:

    WOW!!!

Your fry look great. I have also had amazing luck with my guppies and the fry. I had so many I gave most of them away. I am going to go get new more colorful guppies and start again. It is so fun watching them grow.

I am so excited to start with new colorful males and fe-males.

Oh by the way, i started out with fancy guppies (my female was not colorful though), I also had one plain guppie fe-male and she also had fry, but they are smaller than the rest of my fry.

That's a 10 gallon, but don't worry, they where only in it temporarily. They normally live in a 750 gallon pond.

These are the original 3 (fancies):

I'd actually planned on getting away from guppy breeding a while back so I fed them all to the oscars. Well, one gave birth in the 10 gallon before I gave the adults to the oscars, and one gave birth in the oscar tank. Only one survived the 3 weeks with the oscars (the male) and I decided to spare his life and picked 2 females from the 10 gallon to save. Then when I build the pond, I figured what the heck, and put them in there.

I plan on leaving them in the pond for the winter. I don't know if they'll survive or not, but the pond is pretty deep so they might. But in case they don't, I'll probably save a few to restart the population again in the spring.
