some humor for the day

we have a ritual when I get home every night. I drive in the garage and my husband lets Jake and Wylie out to greet me. last night Im in my car trying to get out with my shopping bag, in it are a few doggie presents. they are basicly hermetically sealed, in their packaging think of something in a zip lock bag. I am trying to get out of the car and Jake is knocking me back trying to get into the bag. He knows whats in there! I am playing tug of war with the bag. We finally make it in the house. I get the bag in the closet and Jake just sits at the closet whining because he knows there are dog toys in there.

It amazes me that nose of his. all dog toys must have a special smell to them. I have learned I cant put their toys under hte tree until CHristmas morning. The first time I didnt do that. I came home to find Jake had fund his presents under tree, had unwrapped and was playing with them. He doesnt touch anything else but what he knows are his.

Well at least he didn't unwrap anyone else's presents!

I never get to spend Christmas with my doggies. They aren't allowed at either my parents' house or my husband's parents' house. At least this year we can see them the day after. I wanted to board them only overnight but she won't let me pick up on Christmas Day.

 

Jimiya thats too bad you cant spend christmas with your fur babies.

So on CHristmas morning I bury their toys under other presents and Jake has so much fun pawing thru everything to find his and wylies. We always let him go first. You can probably tell I dont have kids. The higlight of my morning watching my dog open his first

LOL, it's always funny how they know exactly which toys are theirs.

I can walk in with toys that I'm giving as Christmas gifts without as so much of a peep from Rocky but the second there's someting in there for him all hell breaks loose!

For Rocky's first Christmas I came home to a house full of shredded wrapping paper and Rocky sitting in the middle of the family room with his new toy.

 

LOL!! Me too! Watching the dogs play with their stuff is the best!

My family thiks I"m nuts because I spend more money on the animals than I do on everyone else....lOL

Smokey has alot more fun opening his, than playing with the actual toys....the cats have more fun with the boxes and wrapping, and The horses just want to know if they can eat theirs!!!

 

Yeah well, I bet none of you ever bought presents for mice.... :lol:

 

Mice no, but hamsters yes.

My sister just got a hamster yesterday and I've already got a present for it! My other 2 hamsters I had before got presents on christmas too!

 

I agree, hampsters and gerbils yes, mice....no

 

Heh, if the mice last that long. They are dropping like flies, now. :cry:

We lost two in the last few days, which means we are down to three mice (from a peak of 15). Unfortunately, they are still in three different cages!! Two are boys and they fight, and the other is a girl and we don't want her pregnant. Sheesh!

 

Uh oh!! are they just old?

 

Yes, they are just old. MooMoo was probably getting close to two years, maybe a couple months shy. She shared a cage with the mycoplasma pneumonia mouse (the one I medicated for 10 months) before we knew better, but she didn't develop symptoms until she was older, a month or two ago. Rather than terrorize her with medicine, I decided to let it take its course and dropped some echinacea on her back (they lick it off) every once in a while to try to boost her immune system. She had a crisis a few nights ago but then seemed to pull out of it but died a couple days later.

Her cagemate, Fawn, is the youngest mouse we have and shows no signs of the mycoplasma yet, but she probably will as she ages and her immune system starts to falter.

The father of the babies we had (Bo) is still going strong. He is the oldest that we have left and is probably about the same age MooMoo was, or maybe a month younger.

And we have one baby left, Flint, who is 18 months old. None of the babies were terribly healthy for very long. Many had giant, nasty tumors and several died very young and suddenly. This is why you don't breed pet store mice.

 

That is awesome that Jake knows what is his!!
I am sorry about your mice Jamiya! The one had been struggling for y while I remeber talking about how you medicated her. But that is disgusting about how the poor little mice are treated so badly (not by you) but by the companys who inject them and make them eat whatever for our benefit.

 

honeybears, did you give Jake his present early? If you did, you know you're going to have to get another one for Christmas morning.

Just think about his sad little face if he thought Santa didn't come.

Sharon, oh no, Jake doesnte get his early. my rother sent me a gift and I put in under the tree and jake wont leave it alone, he just sniffs, and sniffs He is not going after to open since he knows its not a toy but I think it may be something liek those dried salame and hceese thing and he smell fodd so I Had to put it away.

Oh JImiya you rpoor mice, I am so sorrty hear they are not doing well
