okay, Thursday mornign my kittens go in for their spay and neuter. I know they cant eat after midnight on Wednesday but can they drink? I am gettin it done at a low cost spay and neuter clinic and my husbnad was the one that made the apt. so I didnt talk to anyone. is there any diffrence in a spay and neuter (besides the fact that one is for males and the pther for female?) LOL I have both so I dont know if they will heal at the same time or if they will heal diffrently. also, is there anything I need to be prepared for? do they need anything special? I would like to get everything they need before Thursday so I dont have to run around when they get home. any advice would be great.

    Thanks
    Melissa

yes they can drink water but no food. I was told no food 12 hours before the surgery but the foster kittens will only be about 10 weeks old when they get done so it could be an age thing.

I don't know how the low-cost clinics do but with my male they just cut into the testicle and scoop out the contents  leaving the sac intact so he doesn't look neutered. With this method there is like 2 or 3 stitches and healing time is quick and the stitches dissolve. They might castrate cause it takes less time I believe but again I believe those stitches will dissolve. They do discourage you from letting the kitten jump for a couple of days (good luck on that one) and males "perk up" quicker than females cause the surgery isn't as involved.

The female, some vets do spays from the side now cause it's quicker and easier on the cat. You might have outside stitches might now (my vet does internal stitches even on spays)...depends on the vet. The female will be out of it longer than the male and she shouldn't jump for awhile. Keep her quiet.

Also be sure to keep an eye on the incision for both of them. You want to be sure they don't get infected.

And thank you for getting them fixed :y_the_best:

well they go in at 7:30 on Thursday so maybe thats why they said from midnight on they cant eat. hopefully they will come thru with flying colors and I wont have a problem keeping them from jumping. yea right. LOL they will only be 9 weeks old (they have to be at least 8 weeks to get it done) so hopefully they will heal fast and easy

my fosters will be about 10 weeks old when they get done and I'll be dropping them off at 8am. My vet said no food after 8pm...and I remember it was like that when my had my Little Fella Zeus done a year or so ago. But if your vet says after midnight I'd go with that...but I wouldn't offer them a meal at 11:30

they usually have their last meal at 6:30 or 7. I feed them right after I feed the kids cause we have a small kitchen and I dotn want them to get run over.LOL but I CAN leave their water out all night right?

I'm pretty sure I had to take away water the night before mine were getting fixed. Rhiannon just had surgery to remove a lump 2 wks ago and I had to take her water away after midnight. Maybe you can just call the clinic or any vet in your area and ask just to make sure?

I think I remember having to take the water away too. But it was long enough ago that I'm not sure.

I made my foster kittens appointment today and water was mentioned as being okay...but everyone is different. I've heard some people say they were told it's okay some told to take it away. I'm not taking fluids away from 9 weeks old kittens for that amount of time though. They are too young to go 12 hours without fluids.

I think I'm gonna comprimise. I'll take the food away after their nightly feeding adn take the water away at 4am when I wake up. that way they will still have water most of the night and when they wake up the will be able to have their water again. they go in at 7:30 so they are the first ones to get done. I dont think a few hours without water will hurt them. I am gonna go get them a new toy or something for them to tell them I'm sorry for the pain I'm putting them thru. LOL
