Maggots definately are a problem. What kind of dish does he use? Is it one like a bowl like we use, or has some kind of lip on it? My parents have this water dish thing that you fill a contaner with and it delivers water for an extended period of time. I'm horrible at explaining, so here's a link.

It would be pretty hard to tip over and its got that "free flowing water" sense to it.

Another alternative is the "buddy bowl" which is designed to be spill proof. I think they were created more for dogs but I'm sure they could be used for cats as well.

Not sure if this is the buddy bowl but mine's plastic that they sell for $4 at Target. I've seen the stainless steel ones at Petsmart and ebay.

More of the bowls with the rubber rings on the bottom and it will prevent water spilling unless your kitty is like Rene who likes to dip her paws in the water bowl if it's not fresh:

Here is a cheap solution I used before I got them the water fountain:

Simply place a piece of bubble wrap under the water bowl.

This was free for me cause I had just moved and I had lots and lots of it.
(which, by the way, was kitty heaven - I've never seen them so happy)

My kitten will only drink water if its on the floor..

I'm constantly stepping in puddles of water in my kitchen but, I noticed that when the water is in the bowl(where its supposed to be!) my kitten wont drink it? He shares the bowl with our other cat, we've tried giving him his own dish but it doesnt matter..he only drinks off the floor...? Any solutions?

those bowls look good..i was just gonna clean teh bowls i had..i think they were puppy dishes but saw some of the squirmys got up into the little pedistals on the bottom of the bowls..so i just threw em out..now im using just regular tupperware bowls..but i think i will go ck out petsmart tomorow to see what i can find..mabye even an elevated bowl..that would keep it off the floor and prevent spilling i hope..thanks for the suggestions.

My Copper-Cat dumps all water bowls except the Petmate water fountain. All of my critters love that thing. I highly recommend a pet fountain if he's a water nut!

I love elevated bowls. Definitely makes cleaning much easier. Mine is a four bowl holder that I can lift with one hand which I keep on the kitchen island so my toddler can't reach. I also have a 2 bowl metal holder for Ginger purchased from Petsmart for $13.

Nope, the highest point is 5.5 inches and the food is much lower than that so they can reach in without any problems.

hello, I just wanted to say my tiger does the same thing only when I put to much water in the bowl. When I do tiger is pawing his dish over to spill. Same goes for the dry food. So I have been trying not to put so much water or food into his bowls. LOL Tiger is Picky! [/img]
