Sponge / Carbon/ Ammonia remover ? In What order?

K i know i sound dumb, but i bought new inserts today, and forgot to look at the order which i had the in. i figured the packaging should show me what order, but on the box it shows both inserts in the same space. that makes it rather confusing for me

you typed them in proper order. Put the sponge down, then the carbon, then the ammonia remover. And in case you didn't already know, rinse those out REALLY good.

I will never make the rinsing mistake again. That happend when i set up my first tank :shock:
After that I always rinse well, double rinse even.

No problem. I made the same mistake the first time I put in my new filter. *sigh* Changing all of that water was very irritating, my fish weren't too happy either. ;_;

 

I forget if the ammonia "chips" are just places for bacteria to grow or what. I don't believe the chips themselves actually remove ammonia themselves, but if they do I'd ditch them and just keep the carbon and the sponge. If they do use bacteria then the place for them would be last, so the stuff thats decaying on the sponge releases the ammonia and the bacteria then get to soak it up.
