The day before yesterday I had the dogs outside most of the day b/c it was nice out, i brought them in to fed them and syd woulnt eat, otherwise she was acting normal so i didnt think much of it. The next morning(yesterday) I let the girls outside and I noticed that one of the dogs had pulled out a trashbag from my black trash bin. I knew it must have been syd since she didnt eat her dinner the night before. I looked threw the trash as i was cleaning it and she ate 1/2 pound raw salmon i had thrown away and a big plate of chicken lo mein. Since she was acting fine and not throwing up i thought i got off lucky this time. Then someone on another pet forum told me that raw slamon can be deadly for dogs. She said her dog ate raw slamon and was fine for 5-6 days and then got deathly ill and luckily her dog made it. I just called my vet right now but he isnt in till 10 so i have to wait. Anyone else hear of raw salmon being deadly? Im really worried now!

Also i am just assuming it was Syd that ate the salmon. She is the only one who wasnt interested in her dinner that night, but she has eaten every other meal since then. Also the other dogs were outside too so i dont really know who ate what, but im assuming it was syd, but they could have all been eating the trash so i dont know what to do.

you should be fine if the salmon is store bought. It is dead salmon you find in the wild at lakes and streams that carry the bateria that is deadly to dogs.

Where did the salmon come from that made your friends dog sick?

Yes, pacific northwest salmon needs to be deep frozen for a month or so before eating. Most store-bought salmon has already had this done.

I am curious as well about where the dog who got ill got the salmon from.
