:0011: What age is your puppy going through the terrible twos or has gone through it? Because I think Simon is going through it now :?: He's not listening, when I call him he runs around or he sits there and looks at me like I'm crazy! I've potty trained him and Now when he gets mad at me he will potty atleast once in the house because he got mad at me! Does anyone have suggestion how I can keep my sanety please!! ](*,) Thanks Aussylover

WEll remember the potty training, and teaching him leash, and sit, stay. Yes you really do need to restart the puppy bootcamp. Its normal for them to resort and go back on their training. Kinda like your kids rebeling on you.

Then give him a valium ....LOL !
You gotta start all over ...any type change with a puppy and it is an automatic restart girl ! Even when bringing an adult home it is restart ...Wear your hair in a ponytail and that way you won't pull it .,he will though ..LOL !

I feel for you as we are going through this right now with our puppy. She was completly housebroken for like 2 weeks and now she seems to forget all that! So we are back to square one, she is however getting more consistant in her commands at a very young age so we are happy about this. She does things my 2yo poms wont do. Good luck!

PS Welcome back shirley! Are you here to stay for awhile?

    That's probably why.

You have to make him earn everything that he likes to do, including eating, walks, petting, etc. The better trained he was to begin with and the harder you hit him with "boot camp" now, the faster it will go away. Errr, probably.

Raise your expectations and stay tough!

 Oh no and here I thought to a point I thought I was doing good by spoiling him because I wanted him to be spoiled with love and in the meantime I gotta get firm with him. I mean the love is there my heart is full for him but I know I gotta do what is right for him!!! He's a smart dog and I don't want it to go to waste. Thanks Aussylover :y_the_best:

Ack!! No, don't spoil him!! Aussies are too smart and he will have you trained to his liking and be a wild terror if you let him!

You can be firm and show him he is loved all at the same time. Get this little booklet: How to be the Leader of the Pack...And have Your Dog Love You For It, by Patricia McConnell. It's very short, so you can read it in one sitting.

Make him perform a trick before you put his bowl down to eat. He should respond within 3 seconds on the first command or you put the bowl away and try again in a minute or so. (Make sure you are giving a command he knows well.) Do this with everything he values - if he comes to you for petting, make him do a trick first and THEN love all over him! He has to earn his keep.

The smarter the dog, the more tough your expectations have to be.

:p You have some very good points! thank you so much! :y_the_best: My other half told me the same thing that I spoiled him and I didn't think I did. Now I have to be the meaning in his eyes  :cry:because now I have to get firm! You don't know how much I appericate all of you helping me! Aussylover :D :D

    Great job!

And you don't have to be a meanie - you just have to have higher expectations for him! Dogs need guidance, just like children. They are happier when they know what is expected of them.

 Thanks for incouragement! I do expect a-lot from him because I know he's exstremly smart and like I said I don't want it to go to waste!!! my problem is I get so excited that I want to teach him so much that I need to learn patience one thing at a time. I know in time he'll learn all the things I want him to. He has his good days and his bad days, don't we all lol lol lol :D :D :D :D thanks Aussylover

You've got it all wrong when you say you'll be the "meany" in his eyes. So not true! Dogs WANT structure in their lives. They thrive on routine. Dogs are pack animals, and YOU have to be the Alpha (in other words, you have to be top dog) or he won't respect you. Dogs feel much more secure when they know where they stand in the pack. If you've seen those nature films, you know what I mean. The mother dog disiplines her pups very firmly when they get out of line. Also, if a subordinate pack member steps out of line, the dog who ranks over him will do the same thing. Its the way of nature, and all dogs understand it. It makes sense to them.

And its true that the smarter the dog, the more you have to be on top of things. Expect him to behave and mind, and if he doesn't, make sure he does, or no reward. You'll see a tremendous difference in just a few days' time!
