We have discussed many times the virtues and vices of different diets for our dogs. I have asserted that kibble is NOT a "scientifically formulated food that gives your dog everything he needs" because scientists can't possibly know what nutrients and how much of each is required. They don't know this about people, either.

I was looking up bee pollen for a friend because she wanted to know how it is collected, and I ran across this info:

How's THAT for illustrating that science cannot mimic what nature provides?

Oh, and you have to realize that I am a scientist at heart. Math and science have always been my favorite subjects, and I read scientific magazines all the time. So it's not like I'm an anti-science person. :)

I have heard that before too and I think that it is cool. I also read somewhere honey keeps forever or something, i can't remember. They found honey in a tomb of a pharoah and it was still good.
But my husband is funny about food now, bc he just doesn't get why people would feed their animals kibble, bc so many people give us hell for feeding Luther raw.
When I go to the zoo, I see the lions fed giant chunk of meat, not a bowl full of little brown balls (kibble).

A guy who works at the grocery store saw me taking whole, raw fish out of the freezer bin and he asked how I prepare them. I told him I open the package and hand one fish to each dog. He stared at me. I had to repeat it about 3 times. And then he said, "But how do you cook it?!" So I had to explain it all again.

So finally, I held up a bag of sugary breakfast cereal that was in my cart. I said, "This says it is fortified with vitamins and minerals. Do you think this cereal or fresh fruits and vegetables is more healthy for your kids to eat?" Of course, he said the fresh food. So then I told him that dog kibble is the same as vitamin-fortified cereal and I told him some of the other benefits of raw feeding - healthy teeth and musculature, etc.

I think I actually converted him, but he said his wife would never go for it. At least I planted a seed in his head.

Now if only *I* would eat whole, unprocessed foods...

    Haha me too!
That is funny bc I often times use the sugar cereal as a comparison. Yea, sure the dog/kid can live, but is it healthy????
    of course not!
