Can you believe this wacky law!

Provo prohibition: No dog and cat in same house
PROVO, Utah (AP) — The truth about cats and dogs in this city is that they aren't allowed to live in the same house. But that's about to change.
Current city law allows residents to own up to two dogs or two cats at the same time — but not a dog and a cat together. After getting complaints, the City Council is expected to change the law next month.

The problem was discovered when Susan Sewell and her family went to the Utah County Animal Shelter in Spanish Fork to adopt a kitten in August. The family already has a cat and a dog.

They chose a kitten and began filling out the adoption paperwork. But when shelter staff learned of their existing pets, the family was told they couldn't have the new animal because Provo only allowed residents to have cats or dogs, not cats and dogs.

"I know people can't be having five, six, seven animals running around," Sewell said. "But if you are a responsible pet owner, why limit it to two? If you have two dogs, your kid can't ever have a cat."

we have some sort of ordinance along those lines where I used to live, but I have never known anyone to get in trouble for it.
I forget exactly how ours was stated, but it was more like you can't have more than 5 dogs, but if you have more than 3 dogs you can have no more than 2 cats and vice versa, but I don'T remember exactly what is was.

Ours is no more than 2 dogs and/or 2 cats without a special license. So you can have two of each, but if you want more than 2 of any species you have to get a special license.

But we don't bother to license our cats, even though it is cheap and we only have two. They are totally indoors, so what's the point....

Four is our limit... no more than 4 adult animals... It's high compared to lots of others but I still think it's crap if you take good care and don't have complaints and stuff... I'm one over and we kind of have to hide...but she doesn't mind... Honijade is our hidden dog...she likes to stay indoors anyway... Our neighbors have three dogs... I hope they do as they threatened and build a bigger fence between the properties...it's only a 4 foot wire thing... My dogs are in a run with tarps on the neighbor side to discourage little fingers... HOWEVER we can't let the dogs out to run the yard till later at night to make sure we don't run into the neighbors...they're not home enough for the dogs to learn that the house and yard are THEIRS and that they aren't intruding... Ugh...

In my city you can't have more than 4 dogs or 4 cats. You could have 4 dogs AND 4 cats, but no more than 4 of each. That makes sense to me, but not allowing a cat and a dog to live in the same house is ridiculous

    Very strange law. :?

There is a 3 dog limit here but no cat limit as far as I'm aware....I called the dog license place (city clerks office) and asked. We don't have to license cats here at all. Mine stay inside anyway.
