....she's been here about an hour and is doing pretty well - already exploring. But I can see she has a 'tude. I took her shelter ID collar off and she tried to hit (I was prepared) me then hissed/growled. I know a lot of it is fear so I don't take it too seriously.

I thik this girl probably had a poor upbringing. She had fleas/mites and was an owner turn in (who can ignore that?). She originally came from not to far from here but they took her to a shelter more than an hour away and she came from the same city the shelter I volunteer for is in and they are no-kill yet they took her to a low-kill shelter and left on the notes they are moving out of state.

She lived with a 4 & 5 year olds...makes me wonder if she may have been treated poorly.

We'll be finding out lots over the next few days I'm sure. She keeps peeking at me from behind the sofa like she wants to come out and be friends but doesn't know how. The other thing that makes me wonder about her upbringing is the remark her owners made on her intake form "tempermental but typical of a siamese" WRONG WRONG WRONG...any cat will be tempermental if brought up roughly.

Poor Cleo. I'm so glad she's in good hands now. Can she be resocialized in a short time?

she has to remain isolated for at least 10 days (preferably 4) to protect my cats from any nasties...then it'll be an intro through the safety of a baby gate to see how Cleo does since her owners said she isn't good with other cats. My cats' safety has to come first...so we'll see.

Poor little cat. I bet her 'tude will change for the better in a loving, quiet enviroment. Best of luck Mary.

last night Paul (aka hubby) was on the computer (aka foster room) and he felt fur rubbing against his leg - knowing I was in the other room - he looked down and saw Cleo looking for some attention. He picked her up  (I haven't dared do that yet) and she sat on his lap for quite some time.

This was a non-cat man when we first met. His mother didn't do animals at all so he grew up not knowing what kind of joy there is an having animals around. He didn't want me to foster either but the pressure got to him and he caved....now most of the fosters take to him quicker than me!!!!! :| Till they realize I'm in charge of food

If the owners probably thought it was typical of the species to be tempermental then they probably didn't attribute it to themselves mistreating her. I don't understand how some people can just be so oblivious and ignorant about any pet they have. :x

i grew up with siamese...and all of my extended family had them. my grandparents had two, my godparents always had two...

my sister had two....i had two when i was twenty.

siamese are just like other cats in my opinion. some are tempermental and some are the most loving cats...

here is a picture of tikal (pronounced tickal) and me....she was our chocolate point siamese...later...i brought home a tiny seal point siamese that i found at the pet store...(she was sweet, but a little neurotic...takes after my mother in that respect!!)
