Three dogs? Please help!

My boyfriend and I have two mixed dogs--Thurston and Drucilla. They are both 2 1/2, Dru came 6 months after Thurston--and they are chihuahua mixes.

We were doing volunteer work yesterday--transporting dogs from NJ to a shelter in NY. We were about to leave after the transport when a woman and her daughter came in with 4 chihuahua pups. She was going to leave them at the shelter but if we wanted one she said we could take one. Needless to say we came home with an 8 week old female who is very calm and sweet. (already took her to the vet)

We also have a few cats and kitten--and they ALL get along.
I expected Thurston to be "against" the new addition because he is so attached but he was really good with her. Drucilla who tends to love and mother anything with fur has been indifferent. She hasn't done her usual--lick and groom routine.

Basically..I am writing to find out if anyone has had success with three dogs? I want them all to feel loved and I dont want to break the close bond Thurston and Drucilla already have. Can three be close??

Every dog is different, but after some time I am sure they will adjust (no guarantees though You haven't had the puppy for too long, everyone just needs to get used to her. Maybe Dru is having middle childsyndrome and feels a little jealous right now, but hopefully she'll get over it and love the new puppy too.

 

We got our Lab when she was 8 weeks old. Her name is Tipsy. (she's 7 now) She was the center of attention her WHOLE life. No other pets, ESPECAILLY no other dogs. She is soooooo spoiled, she even has her own couch!!!! Then, I wanted a dog that I could hold, and bring with me everywhere (Tipsy is kinda big for that). But, I didn't want Tipsy to feel unwanted. But.....when i saw him (5 week old carin terrier), I fell in love with him and took him home anyway. Tipsy was very curious about him, and was very cautious. The puppy wasn't afraid of anything, especailly her. We named him Cody. Cody was EVERYWHERE. Even Tipsy's couch. Her food bowl, on her toys, in her pillows, in her usual "begging spot" by our kitchen table. At first, she was NOT herself. She wanted the puppy out. And didn't want our attention anymore. We didn't know wat to do. But.....we gave it more tim. and within the 2nd or 3rd week, they were sharing Tipsy's couch (Cody on right side, laying his head on her paws, and Tipsy on the left as happy as can be). NOW, there inseperable!!!! The cries when the other goes to the vet until they come home. They love eachother. I'm SURE they'll all adjust. It'll just take time. Maybe a little while, but don't worry it'll all work out.

It's been just under a week and there has been so much progress. The three of them play and if we are watching TV--all three come up on the futon and lay together. sigh! what a relief!
