WEll. One of the twins died, and so did one of our little black ones.

But get this!!!! A stray had two puppies and she's adopted them!!! Can you believe it!! She wouldn't take care of her own, but she's nursing these!!! So I've tried taking a baby wipe and wiping down both puppies and the last black one. She took him!!! Soooo hopefully, I'll give her till this afternoon and wipe them all down again, and slip another in there. Maybe there is hope! I guess masking the smell of them, she can't tell the diffrence. She's been very intrested in the puppies here lately. I came out of the house and knoticed a momma dog (very small and skinny) running around frantically. Then Hanky is out of her kennel (again!!) and she's laying in the yard. She had her hackles all up and growling when I approached at the other dog. It was clear she had just had puppies....(her new name is Daisy Mae she's a heeler/terrier? mix) Anyhow. Hanky obviously saw her in labor and went and stole the puppies from her!!!!
Daisy Mae had three more, so I allowed the puppies to nurse from her for the first couple of hourse. THen Returned them to Hanky. I figured she's producing milk again, and maybe she'll take hers back.

I did have a hard time getting the bottle puppies to nurse, but now that they have the hang of it, their good to go!!!
Daisy Mae seems to have a case of respriatory infection. So I'm being VERY careful for the puppies sakes. The vet gave her a shot of some mild antibiotics that shouldn't hurt the puppies. Just as soon as they are big enough, momma will get vac's an rabies, and a full evaluation.

Sooo Now I've got 5 puppies again!!!

The other puppy is doing fine in her foster home. She's very upset she lost one of them, but understands that those things happen. Its hard to botle feed.

Anyhow, I thought yall would would be amazed by this. I know Granvel and I are!!!

yeah... Grandmother is babysitting. The vet said "go figure!!" but he said he's seen it before. Young dogs don't know what to do, but then it'll kinda just click. HE said she probably just needed time for instincts to take over.

Glad they did. If I have to wake up another night every hour, I"m gonna die....
Granny on the otherhand, though she will protest to everyone about it, LOVES it. Gives her something to do.
Too bad, its best that baby gets mommas milk and if she'll take it back then thats wehre its going. If not, I may try to put it on Daisy Mae.

God I've got to get photos here!!!!

Sams, I once had a foster (APBT) who had puppies and all the pups died but one so she was only nursing the one puppy. Anyhow a friend of mine had a Chi/Pom mix in her rescue that had three puppies she was unable to nurse due to a bad infection. So we chanced putting the puppies on the momma Pit Bull. We first took her puppy and wiped it down with a towel so that we got it's dander on the towel then we wiped the other puppies down with the same towel. Then put them in the whelping box with their new momma and she took right to them. Although they were teeny tiny and half the size of the other puppy. It was an amazing sight. Those pups thrived and all were adopted out later when they were old enough.

Sometimes its pretty neat how nature works itself out. My husband had a dog that did this once only it was a family of kittens. She had just weaned her own puppies then they had a litter of kitten the mother wouldent nurse so she took them too. It was amazing and quite a funny site!
