throw some ideas at me

    here's the way it goes.
Dixie and MaiTai came in together but they aren't bonded kitties. They don't bother with each other at all anymore. Dixie hangs out with us and MaiTai hangs out in the bedroom. They have established their territories and friends. Dixie likes my Missy, MaiTai likes my Tilly.
MaiTai would probably get adopted quickly if she didn't have Dixie w/her.
Last weekend the DH said "hmmmm maybe we should adopt Dixie"
Now, for those of you with male significant others, you know how we women must make the men feel like these things are their idea (you listening Chess?)
I simply said "well it's up to you"
he sat and thought, thought and sat - at one point I thought I was going to have to check his pulse. I was holding my breath waiting form affirmative action - ready to leap into the air yet maintain my uninterested demeanor.
Eventually he did take a breath and said "probably not a good idea"
wanted to choke him - get me all excited like that and say "probably not a good idea". Damned lucky the knitting needle didn't leave my hand.
Anyway - I did go ahead and email the rescue's owner/director and mentioned the above to her and she agreed MaiTai would get adopted quickly if Dixie didn't have to go with her and if we do decide to adopt Dixie she's mine.
But the DH is now undecided and I've found over the past 18 years (wow it's really been that long) it goes much better if I let him think he's the one with the "great" ideas (you know how frustrating living like this can be).
HELP.....I can be extremely devious and deceptive - but I'm running on low with this one.

How about telling him about the "numerous" request you've gotten about MaiTai, and how many chances of her finding a great home has been washed down the drain because nobody wants Dixie to tag along... Brag on and on about how nobody wants her; plant an image in his head of Dixie as the poor and lonley outcast. Wake his paternity instincts (?) and make him feel like he could be her knight in shining armor

LOL, Mary_NH. I have to say I agree with Bente. Those are some terrific ideas she came up with. :y_the_best: I wish you all the best in trying to get him to change his mind. The more guilty he feels the easier it will be to change his mind.

Is Dixie daddy's girl? I'd take lots of pics of them together and put them in the family album as well as blow up a nice one, say 8x10 and place it in his favorite room. Everytime I see them together, I'd say awwwww, she's so attached to you; it'll be hard to let her go.
