Tick tick tick ticks

Ughh I just don't know what to do. Luther is a tick magnet! He gets to many ticks on him. I give him Frontline I bought in USA, but they always are crawling on him-on average about 2/day. Is it because the frontline I use comes from USA and it is worthless against the almighty German tick (lol). I don't know if the people hereare just more scared of ticks or if the ticks are more dangerous. When someone gets a tick they go to the doctor immediately. This scares me bc now I have a baby and I don't want a tick to crawl on her and bite her in her sleep and when we wake up in the morning she has ginormous peanut m&m tick on her.
any suggestions?

 

Frontline won't repel ticks...it'll kill them if they bite her.
Ask your vet if they can recommend a repellant but I don't think they make any.
My son is doing landscaping this year and every night he comes home and the darn things fall off his socks and jeans :x gross I hate them.

Ticks are the grossest! That makes sense, about the repellent, but my mil says she finds them after they have bitten him. (I have only seen them crawling in his hair) She has him 3-4 days a week, I haven't seen any bite him, but she insists she has?

 

was the dosage size enough for the size of the dog? I use Frontline too (in NH USA) and I find dead ones frequently after we've taken Molly for a hike. This will be her 3rd summer and I don't recall having to pull any off her - myself on the other hand :shock:

 

For the first time I am battling ticks in our yard. I have had both the yard and house professionally treated three times and I still find ticks on the boys. I used front line prescribed by my Vet for two months but that did not seem to work so now I'm trying Advantix AND a tick collar. They do seem indestructible.
Unless you are in an area where Lyme disease has been identified I would not worry about the bites.
My theory here in Houston is that we have done a good job in controlling fire ants. For as nasty as they can be they are a natural predator of ticks and flea eggs. I can control fire ants but these ticks are driving me crazy. I can't wait until all of the yard poison wears off and the ants return.

I think that is the only time I have ever heard someone want to have fire ants back! They say the ticks are so bad bc the winter didn't get as cold as it should have.

They do have Lyme disease here. I have *heard* that the ticks here can carry meningitis and something else. There are 2 vaccines people can get against the stuff ticks carry (I just forget what they are)

 

Fortunately, in a way, it never gets cold enough here in Houston to kill anything. It might be strange to hope for fire ants but they can easily be controlled from spreading and, since I don't have kids and the dogs are not bothered by them, I would welcome one hill to patrol my yard.
The main insect problem here, besides these ticks, is a variety of mosquito that can carry West Nile Virus.
OK, so the insects now have both an infantry and an air force to attack us, what next? :lol:

OUt here in the country, they are horrible!!!! Im having the worst year for fleas and ticks. I've had my yard professionally treated dozen times, and i've still got them.

I haven't found any on the dogs.. but did find one on me!!! :shock:

seven dust is good. they wont crawl thru it...

 

deer ticks carry Lyme Disease and they are very small so you'd even be lucky to see one on a dog.
the common ones here are dog ticks (northeast) and even though we had tons of snow this past winter we didn't get a deep frost. It snowed tons before it got cold and then didn't get really cold
