took the dogs to the vet

I brought the dogs in for their semi-annual (is that the right word for every 6 months?) heartworm test. I had her do a checkup on them as well. She said my dogs should be poster dogs for health! Without me saying anything, she commented that their coats are beautiful and speculated that they don't shed much because of the raw diet. I didn't realize that they shed less than "usual" of course, since they are the only inside dogs I have had. Although, Nala did shed TONS the first spring we had her.

Anyway. It's so nice to hear that everything you are doing pays off! Raw diet, happy home, all those trips to the park, no yearly vaccinations, no heartworm or flea products. And apparently no baths hasn't harmed them, either.

I got ripped on royally by my vet Tuesday when I got Kabuki's hernia fixed.... They argued and argued with me about giving my dogs heart worm preventative. I've started Precious on it. jsut for the fact that she did have an infestation of worms shortly after getting here, and the mosquitoes are horrible and she's never been around them. And the interceptor is for just about all kinds of worms.

However... I'm using Interceptor... supposed to be the less invasive, more "safer", blah blah blah... Anyhow.. I'll probably be putting kabuki on it.... I'm just soo fearful, dunno what to really do though...

You could use the heartworm nosode for prevention. My homeopath will tell you it's not necessary, but she agreed with me that Bonnie should have it the first summer I had her. We got her in March and had just switched her to raw. She had a TON of vaccinations that January when she came into rescue, as well as being spayed. And of course she was stressed out in a new home. I didn't want to medicate her, so I used the nosode that first summer as a precaution. Since then, I have used garlic supplements and relied on the raw diet and absence of vaccinations or medications to keep them healthy.

If you want the e-mail addy for my homeopath so you can ask her about the heartworm nosode, PM or e-mail me. She's kind of swamped right now, but she'd get back to you.
