    Ugh! Tornadoes in October?
Some of you guys may have heard about all the tornadoes and severe thunderstorms that relentlessly rampaged through Southern Illinois and Missouri last night...Well it just so happens that my property was one of the many homes which got hit. We were hit by an F 2 which luckily did not severely damage our home and everyone is safe. We lost one of our barns part of our roof on the North end and there is lots of landscape/property damage. We were without power from 6pm last night to 12 noon today. A mile down the road from us the tornado skipped around destroying eight homes and causing widespread property damage to other homes. We have a basement so we were in the basement through the storm the dogs all howled and moaned the entire time. We had to muzzle Punkin because she became very violent from fear I suppose? Last night was truly the scariest night of my life. My children are still very scared and the dogs all seem a bit edgy.
Punkin has shivered all day and is very jumpy I am very worried about her. Have any of you ever experienced a tornado?
This was my first and I pray to God my last.

Gina: Brings back old memories of my Mid-West days in Iowa.

Be warned! A big storm (cold) is heading our way to AZ. from the west with rain and snow, and usually when it hits here, it goes your way next.

Glad all of you are O.K. I already told my Hubby that I'm staying home from the business with the dogs for the next 3 days until the storm passes. We'll just curl up in the heat and watch Animal Planet for the next couple of days.

My heart goes out to you and your family. We here in Florida can certainly relate. We were fifteen miles west of BOTH EYES of the hurricanes that hit - Frances and Jeanne. It was one (two) of the worst experiences of my life.

I have two dogs and three fish tanks. We lost electricity the first one for six days. After five days, we took our dogs and evacuated and didn't return for five days.

After the second one, we lost WATER after two days (the electricity had gone off previously) and that was just too much. We evacuated again.

Fortunately our house did not sustain any major damage - but emotionally, I think we're all still a little shook up.

Hang in there - it does get better slowly...

Gina. I'm sorry. Its a horrible experiance. Right after my parents divorced we were forced to live in a tiny little apartment on the outskirts of Houston for a short while. I remember the day vividly.

Mom was at work, and my sister was only 4 at the time I was 8. We lived on the second (top) floor on the outter most ocorner of the complex. ( I hated it there sooo bad, I even ran away a couple of times) Anyhow.

We were watching TV and it was raining pretty hard. IT suddenly stopped and my sister started crying, saying she was scared. I told her it was ok, the rain stopped and Mommy was coming home soon.
There were no trains anywhere around where we lived and we NEVER heard one, un til then. I found it wierd and looked out the only window.

Coming straight down the road, and I mean litterally was an F-3 (that I found out later) tornado. I watched in horror, afraid to move, scream do anything. IT was coming directly at us. My sister was screaming in the back ground, but all I remember is watching this massive swirling cloud of debre coming straight for us. I remember my mother busting in the house, scooping both of us up and throwing us in the bathtub and putting a mattress over us. SHe climbed in too....All we could here was Amanda crying, and the sound of the building ripping in two. The whole apartment shook, rattled, and the bath tub was moving...

After staying in there cramped up for over 2 hours, we emerged to daylight.....and the feild nex to the complex... The tornado had litterally cut our living room in half. all that was left was the bedroom and bathroom and part of the living room.

The complex manager had ladders and we all got down. MOm pulled some stuff off her car (I remember that old car, an 87 Oldsmobile. Funny how you remember those things)

We drove right down the road, which usually took 3 minutes, took 45 to get to the Randalls food store. My Grandpa worked there, and we searched for him. They ambulance was loading him up, he had gotten hit in the head by a flying peice of tin from the roof. It left a pretty good size gash on his hair line. (back when he had hair)

I remember Shaina (our golden ChowChow at the time) was vicious. SHe was sooo scared, she snapped at everyone, and we had to have her sedated. After a few days, she was ok. IT just took her time to adjust to all the trauma.

I'm sorry you had to go through it. IT horrifying. I'm glad you had a basement to secure yoursleves. Your very lucky.

You and your family are in my prayers. If youneed anything let me know.

Gina, I am so glad you and your family are okay, tornadaos are such horrible things, most of my relatives live in kansas and have been thru a lot, I just cant even imagine, I hear so many people say they dont want to live in CA because of earthquakes, but I take CA anyday over the midwest/storms and florida.

I think Punkin will be okay, it will probably taker her a few days to settle down. just watch her, she may freak when another storm hits even a mild one and you want ot be there to comfort her.

    prayers to all of you
