Just thought I'd thank all for replys and concern for Tiffany. I have an appointment this Wed. with the vet to do another glucose test. To be honest, I don't see that much of an improvement in her. I'm really worried about her. I'm sure maybe it's still to soon to tell, she's only been on the insulin for a month. Her legs are still to weak to walk around very much. I put her bed close to her food and litter. All she does is lay around all day, very quiet. She has always been the shy one out of my cats. She hides from everyone but me. I picked her up to bring her to my son so he could see her, and she wet all over me, I know she is stressed out from being sick, and wish I knew what I could do to make her happy aand feel well again. How do I know if she is suffering, and am I doing the right thing? Ive had people ask me if maybe I should have her put down. I love her dearly and want to do the right thing. But, what is that? Nano.

Do what you can. Feed her, pet her, make sure she's comfy and most importantly love her!

I hope for the best for you and your furbaby!

I'm so sorry your kitty isn't feeling well. I have had no experience with a diabetic cat but it sounds like your doing everything you can to make her comfortable.

All I can say is you will know. My Milo was sick back in the beginning of the year. He was diagnosed with tumor in his lungs. I asked myself the same question, but when it was time he told me. I came home from work to find him sleeping on my bed....a place he never slept. My nephew then told me that Milo was downstairs in his bed that morning too...another place he never traveled to. I could tell in his eyes he was ready.

I had just read your initial post. Everyone's replies pointed in a positive direction. Perhaps it is too early to tell since she has only been on the insulin for a month. I will keep her in my thoughts, and pray for her recovery.

It's not a simple question or answer. I agree with Wtpooh, your heart will let you know.

Hi Nano. Diabetes is a manageable condition, once it gets under control. I would not have your kitty put to sleep. What she needs right now is a good vet who will be able to get her diabetes under control. I'm also a firm believer in second opinions. Despite the fact that she has diabetes, has she also been thoroughly tested for any other possible health problems? Unfortunately there are many times when a cat will test positive for one thing, yet may have other health issues that go undiagnosed. In order to get the diabetes under control she must not have other medical problems. This is what I would do if either Romeo or Juliet had diabetes:

    1) Have a full blood/urine/stool/x-rays work done to rule out any other health problems.

    2) Get a second opinion. As much as I like and respect my vet, if either of my kitties had a major health issue, I would get a second opinion on the matter. Also some vets specialize in certain areas. Therefor I would try and get a vet who is known for having good success in treating/managing diabetes.

I wish your kitty all the best and hope she will soon be well again.

hi nano...i am so sorry about your little kitty. i agree with the other poster...and especially a second opinion. sometimes you can find vets that specialize through the board of health examiners...or call around to a couple of vets that have a good reputation and ask what vet in the area specializes in diabetes....

at any rate...its a good idea to get a second opinion. chess gave me the same advice...and i was afraid to tell my vet. when i did....he understood perfectly and said he would have done the same thing...he took no offense.

i will say a prayer for tiffany... :(
