Use old tank water?

I will be getting a Betta from Walmart(rescuing the Betta from Walmart)(''). I will be housing the male Betta in a 1 gallon with plants and a air stone for circulation for now until I move him to a 2.5 gallon later. My question is that I have a 1 gallon jug with the tank water from my 5 gallon that I took out 5-7 days ago when I was doing a water change, anyway can I use the old tank water for my 1 gallon? Any suggestions(':D')?
