Vacation and temporary cat relocation

My son will be out of town for 3 days. I am considering taking his kitten ( 8 months old) over to my house for those days, rather than hiring a cat sitter for his home. I am wondering if she will be confused about the new litter box location and surroundings. Would it be better to just leave her at her home and visit several times a day, or temporarily take her to my house?

3 days is not that long to leave a cat home alone. Since you say you can visit her several times a day, I would think leaving her there would be the best option. On the other hand, if he wants her to get used to traveling, now is the time to do it since she's so young.

I would personally leave her in her home and visit her as often as possible during your son's vacation. She should be fine!

I think you could go either way on the situation. I do think that if you take the cat to your place, the cat would be fine. The cat may be scared at first, and take some time to explore... but, anytime I take my cats to a new location, they get used to it fairly quickly. They seem to remember pretty well where the food and litter is (as long as you show them once or twice).

Do you have any pets at your place? That, for me, would be a possible deciding factor. If you have dogs or cats, it probably would be best to leave the cat at its home.

Either way, three days isn't very long. So, whatever you decide, I'm sure it would work out fine.

I agree with leaving the kitty at home since it's only 3 days and you will visit/feed it. Why disrupt it's routine with a frightening move? I would however leave a tv set on for company/noise if he/she's accoustomed to it.

Our tv set is on constantly when we're home and when ever we have to go out for a few hours, we put the Animal Planet station on for her. She just loves seeing the animals on tv and even tries to play with them! Her favorite seems to be horses for some reason. She goes crazy when she see's horses on tv and tries to play with them LOL

We used to take out kitty Hunter with us whenever we went someplace (my moms, the boat...) and recently he has started being a big whiner in the car and seems a little upset about going someplace.

Last weeeknd we went out of town from Saturday morning to Monday afternoon. I left 4 bowls of water and 3 bowls of food for he and Anna. A few days at home alone doesn't hurt kitties...I don't think :)

I think the kitty will be fine if left at home with you just checking on her. It will probably be less stressful for her that way.

Hi. I think both situations would be fine. Either way, it's only three days. If your son's cat likes company and doesn't like to be alone, then take him to your house. If he is used to being alone (i.e. your son works a lot) then leaving him at home and checking on him several times a day will be fine as well. Let us know how things go.
