I've never read the books but I sure have heard an aweful lot about them. I remember at one point feeling like my head was going to spin off reading so much about pet food. ](*,)

My vet always tell me that raw food as meant in nature is healthier for our cats. Who has the time, energy, and know how to fix raw goodies for our furbabies?

I never really thought about it beyond checking lables for meat to be the first ingredient listed.

I had gone without pets for about 10 years, then got an Iguana. I researched their diets and ended up making his food myself rather than a brand name pet food for iggies. Smaug (our iggy) was extremely healthy but we lost him to a house fire **sniffle** when he was 5. We raised him from a hatchling.

I've grown up with cats all my life and never had a problem with longetivity using brand name foods. So I'll stick with the 'check the ingredients' rule and make sure that real meat is the first ingredient listed.

That said, I will pose the question to my vet. I'll let you know what he says. I have an appointment for Booger Sept 10. I'll ask him then and let you know what he says.

The problem with asking Dr's for advice on meds and such is that they have stock in some of the companies and will promote for their own gain. Sorry...I'm very wary of that. But I'll ask and pass the info along here.

thankx everyone... im soory to hear about ur iguana... i raised 2 maybe 3 years ago thy passed away i had both from a baby and they were 4 when they passed...but on the food subject i have had cats and dogs my whole life and used brand name food usually purina and never really had any problems.. i had 2 cats that one was 18 when he passed and the other was 14 and their main diets were purina food.. but the 14 year old did have urinary tract problems alot (not saying food related but... makes me think a lil now) but it does make me really read lables now as a matter of fact i was in wal-mart today and was there 4 an hour just reading lables on cat foods i bet those ppl thought i was crazy... i e-mailed the vet that i am taking cyanne to and see what he pefers and i know he will probably say science diet b/c he sells that there and like u say they gain from what they sell sooo.... but i am also gonna ask the doc at animal services when i get a chance and see what he says since he dosent promote any kinds of foods....
