Ok I have decided that Sydney is out of controll and I need to stop being lazy and train her like I did Winnie. So I am going to start by taking her on walks to get her tired and then start training her at home. I never really take Syd on walks(we go to the dog park), she is 10 months old. Since we are just walking does it matter if its a long walk? Or should I start slow? I could go on a 2 hour walk, I use to do that with Winnie, but I dont kow if Syd will last, of course I will offer her water throughout the walk.

Also I have a question for those that do take their dogs on walks. If your walking your dog and you want to run into a store really quick would you tie them up outside for a second while you run in, or would you just not run in if you had to tie them up outside. I get kind of nervous thinking of her being tied up outside while I'm in a store but I see people do this a lot. What do you guys think? Thanks :)

I'd say start slow to build up her indurance. Although she could be like my first dog, Max, and just sit and not budge when they've had enough. It's great exercise carrying a 20lb dog back to you house, especially if they decide to do it before you turn back to go home. :)

Personally, I woudn't go in. I've always been paranoid about people doing this. Sometimes if I see someone do it I'll stay outside just to make sure their dog doesn't get stolen.

With the leaving your dog outside thing, I think it is and itisn't ok. You really have to make that call yourself. It depends are you going into the local antique store, which has a huge front window and the store is only 10' deep, i think it would be better outside, don't want to break anything inside! But going to do your monthly shopping at SuperWalmart, not a good idea. I rarely leave Luther outside, I think only when I was in America did I leave him outside and never more than 10 minutes and always in a place where I could see him. I have 2 labs I walk with and they come inside the stores with me always, which can be difficult with the one bc not only is he a big butt, but he isn't so agile, no small corners for him. But some dogs don't seem to mind waiting outside for their owners. At a place I worked in USA, there was a little place in the shade with water and a blanket for people to put their dogs if they needed to come in.

I would never leave my dogs outside a store, I just freak out that someone may take them, especially since the last time I was in thie cute little downtown that was very dog friendly and somone ahd a reward because someone stole their dgo from out in front of one of the shops

I also would never leave my dog tied outside. Not only would I be worried someone would take them, I would also be worried someone would do something stupid. What if Nala nips at someone or jumps up on them and scratches them? I don't want my dog taken away because someone else was stupid.

I rarely walk my dogs during the winter so when spring rolls around I usually start out with shorter walks to get them used to it again and then gradually work up to longer, further walks.

I also would not be comfortable (especially in my neighborhood) leaving my dog tied up outside of a store. My cousins boyfriends doberman was stolen from in front of a store years ago and was never found...he was devestated.

We start with short walks. The store thing to me that would be like tieing one of my kids up out side a store, We never leave our babies outside un attended even if they are in a car. On second thought maybe i would leave one of the kids out there lol.. Their all over 21.

For me. I can leave my dogs in the back of my truck and not have to worry about them. They are harnessed witha saftey tie in the back.
I do however have a sticker on my back glass that say's " Security Provided by ACD's Will BITE"

Any one dumb enough to approach when their growling deserves to get bit.

As far as children go. Parents need to be aware and not let them approach a vehicle with a dog in the back.
Everyone in our town knows not to mess with dogs in the back of trucks. But in Houston or another town, I wouldn't risk it at all.
One for the safety of my dogs, two, for other peoples safety.
Theyw ill bite if approached and feel that "their" truck is in danger. But they do give fair warning.
I'm sure in larger cities, people aren't used to that kind of thing.

That and idiots would try to steal them. I had someone try to steal Gris before. He got his arm bit and then tried to sue us!!! Was dumb enough to tell the judge and sheriff that he wanted to take the dog and when he reached in the back of the truck (even with the security sign) Gris nailed him!!! Dumb people!!!
