We made it through Frances and are now watching out for Ivan

We made it through the hurricane in a shelter, 9 humans and 6 dogs all in one room, but we were far better off than the 1500 other folks sheltering there. No power, air or water from Friday through Sunday in an airless building with nearly a total of 1600 of us.

Our home took a hit, not too sure if the roof actually lifted up or was twisted, but we have a skylight where there never was one in the living room, most shingles gone, siding pretty much peeled, front door split in half, fencing down, trees gone, but we got the power restored on Wednesday, as the president drove past the house (I'm the second house from the corner of the street he drove down) and the phones (and computer) just now restored (they'd been saying October 7th).

Just wanted to check in for those who might like to know. Now, we prepare for Ivan

Onewolf everything I see on the weather channel still have Ivan comming though almost the entire state of florida on Sunday. I keep a check on storms on www.weather.com they have all kinds of charts and things that are kept updated.

Ivanis due to hit the west coast early tuesday morning. I'll be heading my little behind somewhere else. Florida has seen enough hurricanes this year, Ivan is just going to destroy us.

Prymom as I said in the other forum. I was so worried about you over there. Glad you guys made it threw. Just be glad that it was only our house that can be fixed, other people have seen much worse fait from Frances. Just hold on for Ivan I don't think you will see much of it prolly just what I saw of Frances but I'll be meeting Ivan up close and personal.

We are in the hardest hit area, Saint Lucie County, in Fort Pierce and though we took a hit on the house, we are a lot better off than a LOT of people. Since there seems to be some structural damage to the house, only a general contractor can tell us if it's "fixable", but we'll make it through one way or the other. I'm so glad Ivan has taken us out of his sights, we'd never recover if we took another hit so soon. I just pray that the west coast isn't slammed again. I've lived my entire 53 years in s. FL and have never evacuated before this, I'm awfully glad we did though. The dogs (all 6 of them) were wonderful and took it like pros. I was terribly worried though as the temp was in the 90s with no power, hence no a/c and I was afraid they'd have heat strokes. Our wells are tainted, so we have to boil all water and add bleach. We're getting back to life, slowly but surely.

Stormy, you watch you behind! Get the blazes out of there if it even LOOKS like Ivan is coming your way! You can come here, the roof leaks, but we do have electric (although it comes and goes every now and then) and you can bring the critters! We have plenty of room now that the rest of the family is leaving today.

Thanks for the site, i use http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ alot, it does a nice job and helped us with Frances. Im in the west site in Broward County so we will just get small outskirts by the look of it (Plzzz let school be cancled lol.) Best of luck with the hurricane for all those on the east side!!

Glad to hear you made it. Been wondering about all of you down there. Some deal friends of mine live in Port Charlotte and were hit pretty bad by Charley. Sounds like they're in about the same straights as you are. Power in and out, roof, lanai (sp?), landscaping just plain gone. They are back home, but lots of work to be done. They couldn't get to a shelter on time though and said NEVER AGAIN will they stay. Glad you could get to a shelter, it must be pretty scarey even being in a shelter - you don't have a clue what's happening to your home. Anyway - glad you're back safe and sound.
