What is Boo doing?

Boo is our oldest cat; she is 14 yrs. old. Out of all the cats we have had over the years, she is the only one that has done this. From time to time, she will wander through the house and let out a few yowls. She is not sick or in pain, I think she is calling for someone or something? Its sort of funny. I have been a room, and if she walks in yowling without knowing I am there, when she sees me, I swear she almost looks embarrassed! What is she doing?

Hi. She's just talking, just like we do.

Copper will do this too...and if I startle him he will stop mid-yowl. It's not so great when he does this at 4am. :x

I wake to Booger yowling at night when I'm in bed. I call her name and she comes running and hops up on the bed with me and is fine after that. I think Booger does it when she feels lonely.

And it's not a normal meow, it's a throaty yowl

My Mittens does that, too. I sort of thought it was a lonely thing, too. Maybe she forgets where I am in the house. If I call her she'll also stop in mid yowl and come to where I am.

Gracie does that too, when you don't let her into the house from the front yard or the garage fast enough, lol. She sounds kinda like a horase lion, and then as soon as she hears you messing with the door, she stops, and does sweet little mews until it's open and she's in, lol.

Kitty seems to do that too. I just have to say "I'm here Kitty" and she follows my voice. Tiger does it too, but not too often. Kitty also gets into these playful moods (which she seems to have grown out of), but occasionally she will go beserk and then when you catch her eye, she gets all embarrased and runs away. she's a classic! :D

Yes, it's actually quite common. My Patches used to do it all the time. I'd just call out to him, "I'm here, Patches!" and he'd stop.
