my wife and i have a 1/2 german shepherd, 1/2 german shorhair. her name is jenny.

we were considering getting another dog. jenny is very active and we take her to the park where she swims and gets really tired but she still has so much energy. we thought another dog would help wear both of them out. thinking about a dalmation......any thoughts?

she looks like a cutie! How old is she, she looks really young, if she is still pretty young you might want to wait until she is fully trained so you don't have the problem of training 2 at a time, but some people say it is easier that way and then they get to grow up together. Dalmations have alot of health problems,, so be careful of that. butif they are both puppies then almost any dog would be good. Everyone is partial to a different dog, so just do sme research on it I think on places like petfinder.com they have searches on your perfect dog and I am sure it has the option of if you have another dog. maybe try something like that? good luck

    Jenny is a doll!!!

I think Dalmatians are also very high energy dogs. We were very lucky that the 2nd dog we got loves to play, but she's also very calm in the house. That way we didn't end up with two totally hyper dogs inside.

I would go to your local shelters and ask the workers/volunteers for dogs that like to play and get along well with other dogs. Since your pup looks young, you might consider getting an adult dog around 2 years old or so. Make sure you have your pup go to meet any possibilities before you commit to one, to see who she likes to play with the best. Have someone knowledgeable in dog behavior watch the two of them interact.

You can also try going through local rescues. Dogs that are in foster homes are great ones to look at. Usually the foster mom has worked with the dog to break undesirable habits and even started training them a bit. They can also tell you very specifically how the dog behaves and what good behaviors and not-so-good behaviors they have.

I assume when you said you take your pup to the park you meant to an off leash dog park. If not then that's a good place to go to observe other breeds and talk to people about thoses breeds. It is also a great place to socialize your dog. I found this list of dog parks in your area:

    thanks

yea she was 2 months in that pic. she's now 8 months old and about 4x's bigger....

we go to the off leash dog parks and she is very good w/ other dogs. they chase each other forever and wear each other out. my wife took her there today for 2hrs and threw the ball in the water about 100xs and she has been home for 5hrs and she's STILL asleep!! LOL....

im leaning towards a german shepherd or some other big dog. she's gonna be big and we already have a cat that she towers over. dont want to give her too big of a head!! :p

Swimming is excellent for tiring dogs out! I wish Nala would swim. :?
