Ok she is part pug and rat terrier and is 6 weeks old, this is my first puppy and not sure what to feed her. Any help would be appreciated.

Look for foods that list a specific meat or meal meal as the first few ingredients on the bag - such as "chicken", "chicken meal", "lamb", etc. NO byproducts!! And nothing generic like "meat" or "meat meal". Also, no preservatives or long lists of words that are 26 letters long and you can't pronounce. Avoid corn and other grains.

Some good brands to look for are: Innova, Canidae, Timberwolf Organics, Natural Balance, Blue Buffalo, Chicken Soup for the Dogs Lover's Soul, Eagle Pack, California Natural.

If you can buy it in a regular grocery store - RUN AWAY! Don't buy it. If you can buy it in a pet store chain - like PetCo or PetsMart - be very careful. Natural Balance at PetCo and Blue BUffalo at PetsMart are about the only ones I would ever consider.

Most of the foods can be found at groomer shops or specialty pet shops. You can locate local stores online.

I personally think the best way to go is to feed raw meat and bones. If this is something you would consider, I will post more. If not, I will save myself the typing.

If you go with kibble, you may want to choose a few different foods and rotate them every few months or so. That gives the dog a variety of proteins and lessens the chances of developing allergies.

Of course, every dog is different and what works for some may not work for others.

That's just "Nutro", right? Nutro Max is less good, isn't it?
