Im kinda stuck and dont know what to do in my current situation, perhaps you guys could help me?

I have 3 dogs that Ive had for about 4 years, Bear, Winnie, and Sydney.
Right before I moved to my current house I got a maltese puppyy, 4 months old, names Emma. I loved Emma, I had her groomed once a month, brushed her at least twice a day, cleaned her eyes everyday, and just kept her happy, healthy, and pretty for as long as I had her. When Emma turned about 6 months old, I had started to not be around as much, I got busy, I just got a horse and was gone for about 8 hours a day. I felt bad for Emma cause she was getting crated for longer and longer periods of time.

My ex boyfriend, who I was still friends with, told me he loved Emma and would love to have her. He also had a 5 month old German Shephard puppy he thought emma could be friends with, he lived with 2 other people so I knew she would get a lot of attention. I told him he could have her for free since I knew she was going to a good home. The night he came to pick up Emma I told him everything about how to take care of her, I told him he had to brush her at least once a day and he had to clean her eyes at least once a day, I told him her commands, her habits, etc....

So that was a couple months ago. I went to his home this morning, he wasnt there, he is out of town) I came to pick up a fridge, and I walked in the door and saw Emma, and she was a mess! Her hair was long and mangy looking, it looked like she hadnt been brushed at all. Her hair by her eyes was long and all red (tear stains), she looked like a pound puppy, which is not how she looked when I had her.

It obvious he doesnt brush her or wipe her eyes, he probly just feeds her and thats it. I was so sad when I saw her. I gave her to him cause I thought he would take good care of her but once I saw her I knew that wasnt the case. Am i over reacting?

He just moved to new york for 2 months, he had told me he was taking Emma with him, but when I came to his house this morning she was there and he was not. His roommates are taking care of her, and they dont even clean up the pee from the german shephard puppy, they live in filth and the pee odor is soo strong!

My mom is very close with him and she loved Emma, I told her the situation and she is very upset and said she would call him and try to convince him, that in Emma's best intrest he should give her back to me. I dont kow if it would work but I felt so bad when I saw her current condtions and it was never like what I had thought it would be.

Im worried he wont want to give her up, but she just looks awful.
What would you guys do if you had a puppy you loved but had to rehome, and you thought it was going to a great home with someone you knew really well, but then you see them 2 months later and they look aweful? What would you do?

I would try my best to take the pup back!! it would be in her best interest to get her into a home that will take care of her.
I will hope for the best and please let us know how this turns out!!!
I am glad that you are on top of this for her sake.

Personally I wouldn't hesitate to take her back.I"d have scooped her up and took her with me. Plain and simple as that.

I'm pretty strict about where my puppies and dogs go and I have taken dogs back before.

Do what you feel is best for the dog. If he's a good friend, he'll see your point.

Like Hdryder said I would take pup. I would not even ask, just go over there and get it. Ans take pics of what hse looks like in case questions are asked. It would probably be a relief for them

    Hi Winnie....its been a while.

If you think he would be reasonable then talk to him, could be that he would welcome the offer....if not then I would get pics of how she is now if poss and just take her, do you have any paperwork, like a reciept or something for her? Just thinking that if you took her and he kicked off over it you might be able to get away with "he was just taking care of her for a while...." might depend on how long hes had her but if your the one with the paperwork....as far as I know the courts would side with you, especially if you could produce "before and after pics"....hopefully wouldnt ever get to that stage though.
