Whats Wrong?

Look at the back of the looks like it has a cut on it. can anybody tell me what it is? Its been there awhile and it doesn't seem to bother her so I don't guess its anything too terrible.[/img]Sorry about the poor quality of the pic, its hard to take a picture of a fish. lol

Right behind the gill there is a place that is open. Can't anybody see it? Maybe the picture is just too blurry. But theres a real pink spot there.

 

Just looks like a regular part of the gill to me. Could be wrong though, lets see what others say.

 

I see it now. It could be an injury. When my 2 oscars where fighting really badly, my female ended up with the edges of her gill plates torn up so now they curve in like that.

As long as it's not getting bigger, I wouldn't worry too much. She does run a slighly higher risk of having her gills injured, so just make sure there aren't any aggressive fish in the tank or anything sharp/pointed she can hurt herself on.

It doesn't appear to be getting any bigger and it doesn't seem to bother her. The only time theres any bullying when sometimes when they are fed and then she chases the male off and he knows better than to bother her.
Whats got me a little worried now is the ick. I just really figured out what it was yesterday and started treating them for it but they look worse today. How long does it take for the treatment to work?

 

It depends somewhat on how bad the infection is. I've treated really mild cases (2 or 3 fish with 1 or 2 spots) with salt & raised temperature and had the spots disappear in 3 days.

if your really certain its a cut then try melafix as its natural and aids healing, it doesnt do anyharm to plants of filters or other fish, so it may put your mind at rest
