The original date I had calculated for my finch eggs to hatch was today, January 19, 2005. I ended up with a surprise baby Sunday, the 16th of January. So I was wondering, how long should I wait until I take out the other eggs? Is there still a good chance the other 2 will hatch (the 3rd egg is not fertile, I can see through it)
As far as the baby goes....it's a little piggy! Mom and dad are doing a fantastic job at caring for it. It's very chubby, and seems like it's crop and belly are always full. I found a great egg food in the petstore that is very convienent, and the finches actually eat it. I'll keep you all posted at the baby's progress.

Count 25days from the date the last egg was laid if its been longer since it was laid you can be sure the other eggs will not hatch so they can be safely removed.

What i did when i realised the other eggs were not going to hatch was waited until the chick that did hatch was about 5-7days old and thenb removed the eggs but thats because mine do not like me going into the nest but if yours are doing a great job at feeding the chick then its safe to remove the eggs if they are not going to hatch..

Congratulations on the one you have my little one has started trying to eat on its own and the female has already laid another egg which is abit of a surprise as some finch's wait until there first chicks are put in a cage of there own funny thing was she must have known i was going to take nest off her today but when i looked there it was the egg lol..
