When to remove unhatched eggs

    Hi folks,
Wondered if anyone can give advice as to when to remove unhatched budgie eggs. Our hen laid 6 eggs and only one has hatched. The incubation time has now passed for all the eggs. Is it now time to remove all the eggs?

Should we replace the eggs with shavings/paper for support for the chick?

Will removing the eggs encourage the hen to lay another clutch?

    Thanks

Its best to wait 24-25days after the last egg was laid before removing any eggs.

Nests should be lined with about 1inch of plain woodshavings and replaced if the birds throw it out of the nest this helps keep the chick warm when parents out of the nest plus absorbs water from there poop helping to keep the nest dry.

Removing eggs after the incubation period is ok they do not usually lay again to replace the eggs lost especially when they have a chick in the nest.

You will find however once the chick is 4weeks old the female may have already started on her next clutch.
Never allow them to have more than 2 clutches in anyone breeding season as each egg they lay depleats her calcium levels and can cause her to become seriously ill.

So if its been over 24days then i would remove the eggs there is no need to replace them with anything just leave the chick in there.
