Whole Walnut hanging from a string?

    Hello everyone, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to hang an entire walnut from like a hemp string so that my budgie could crack the shell and eat the nuts inside? Would the little peices of shell harm her"? or should I shell it and give her just the nuts?
