why does my puppy hate pooping outside??

my maltepoo is 4 1/2 months old and we seem to be doing well with the pee part of housebreaking...she usually pees pretty fast when i take her outside (got her to do this with lots of treats and praise)..our problem is the pooping part...she'll go fine every morning when i let her out of her crate..but within a couple of hours i catch her trying to go in the living room (behind the chair)...if i catch her in time, i tell her NO and pick her up and take her outside...once we get outside...nothing..!....we have gone through this routine three or four times some days before she'll finally just go outside..probably because she just can't hold it anymore...
This is becoming an every-morning thing, and i have to get myself ready for work while playing the 'in and out' game!...i've just been putting her in her crate when i can't directly see her, but i feel bad about that because once i leave for work, she is in the crate for four hours usually. I want her to have her 'free time' but i can't chase her behind the chair for a hour or more.. :roll: every day...
we were outside three times already this morning (caught her behind the chair twice) and right now she is on my lap and i can feel her belly rumble..so i know she's got to go!!....she'll have one more chance and then she'll have to wait four hours to go out again....i don't want her to get sick, but don't know how to force her to poop!!...

keep her outside for longer. dogs wont instantly do a poo like they would a wee. they dont like people watching them poo either. she is more likely to do it on walks, because as you know walks get it all movin :lol: more chances to praise then too.

when i want my dog to do her business at home i will usually chuck a toy around for a bit. then i will chuck it in the direction where she usually goes. i disappear while shes running for the toy and this is the time when she will go.

 

I agree with keeping her outside longer. When I was housebreaking Rocky he would do the exact same thing and he also hates when you watch him.

I put Rocky outside and close the door (I can still see him from the window in the door, but he doesn't know that I'm there) and that's when he'll usually go.

 

I don't think it's a problem of her hating to poo outside. It's more like when you catch her getting ready to do it in the house and shoo her outside, the urge passes for a few minutes. It can take a few minutes for the urge to hit again, so like already suggested, keep her outside longer. If you've noticed a pattern in her behavior, try to get her out a couple of minutes before she heads for the spot she prefers in the house. Then when the urge hits full force, she's where you want her to be.

 

My Zoey will go immediately when I let her outside, but Brie takes a little while. I guess she has to wake up and "get things moving" LOL like Kyles said.

With Chloe, she'll go pee on her pads in the bathroom but I have to close the door and leave her in there by herself for about 10 minutes before she'll decide to go poo. I guess it takes her a while to settle down, roam around, get bored, then decide she might as well go since nobody is watching. If I check on her and she hasn't gone yet I just leave for another 5 minutes and make sure she isn't getting distracted with toys or trying to play.

 

You might also block her access to her favorite place to poo in the house. Maybe she will be less likely to do it then.

I do let her outside for as long as I can....i'm not comfortable leaving her out alone (even though the yard is fenced in), but i do manage to let her out for 15 - 20 minutes at a time....that's about all i can manage with the limited time i have in the mornings. This evening we were out for at least 1/2 hour...running around the yard and enjoying the unusual spring weather. She loves it outside...it's pretty much the first time she's seen grass since we've been covered with snow since she was born. Anyway, we were out this evening...no poop, but plenty of pee stops...came in and i was making dinner and left her run around the house a little, took my eyes off of her for a minute and, yep...she pooped on the ceramic tile in front of the front door...better than the carpet i guess,,,but what the heck??...I guess i'll have to be more diligent about keeping her in the crate when i can't watch her, but she hates it when she has to be in there and we are all walking around her...i feel bad...but what to do??...

 

try tethering her to you, so, you have a long rope to give her some leeway so she is not too much underfoot, but is close enough that you see her start to do it and the quickly grab her and take her out. I think someone can chime in here on how long the the rope should be, I would think 6 feet

 

Just a little tip to add on to what everyone else has said. I found with Annie that if I keep walking with her, she could take an hour before she decides to go. If I stand stationary and don't move my hand and let her hit the end on the leash and only move a few feet to the right or left, she goes much more quickly. She's easily distracted by everything, and forgets she needs to go if I don't make her bored by staying in one spot.

 

In front of the door is close! If I know Brie needs to go and hasn't, I gate her in the kitchen (vinyl floor) and then take her back out a little later. Still at 8 years old, she doesn't go poo on the first trip outside. Almost always the second trip--right before I leave for work in the morning and then on the second trip out when I get home in the afternoon.
