Will a cat starve itself?

Ever since I started trying to get some weight off of Copper, I think Sabrina has lost weight. I put canned food on their dry at night and they both chow down. Then I put a little dry down in the AM and Sabrina just looks at me like I'm crazy. I made tuna salad for myself this morning and she followed me all over the kitchen meowing at me. I don't want them on just canned--what if I go out of town for a few days?? She won't starve herself, will she?

Nah, if you leave food for her if it's just a couple of days, it should be no problem. It may not be the food of her choice, but she won't starve herself unless she has a URI where she can't smell the food.

Kitties can be finiky when it comes to food but they wont starve themselves just because they dont like the entree. But if they have a URI, they may shy off food because they cant smell it.

With that said, I"m no expert. Just reiterating what I've read here and there. And I would only leave food for Booger if I was only going to be away for perhaps 2 days. More than that, I'd have either family come by and care for her or put her in our vet's bording

Hi. :D One of the many indications that a cat is not feeling well, is not eating. However, because your cat was begging for some of your sandwich, I doubt she's ill. She probably wants something a bit more exciting than what you are giving her. Cats can be so picky. However, to answer your question, a cat in good health will not starve themselves for too long. Eventually they realize that the food you give them is all that there is to eat and they will make their way to their food bowl and eat the "gross food" you choose to give them.

Well thanks guys. That's kinda what I figured. She seems fine, except when she sniffs the dry only. Then she gives me that "silly human" look. Like I forgot or something.

If I go out of town for more than a few days, I do have someone come in especially to scoop the boxes. They hide from everyone, but those boxes need scooping and I like someone to at least check on the house and them. Last week I had to go up to Atlanta all of the sudden and they barely touched the dry I left down.

Haha. Sounds like she's just a picky cat. She probably looks at the dry food and is like..."Umm...I think you forgot something here."

I weighed Sabrina and she actually weighs 9 pounds. That's not bad. I guess she just feels so light compared to "tubby" and her weenie dog sisters lol.
