Would you buy a cat with a cold?

I am about to buy a purebred Maine Coon kitten from the same breeder who sold me one for my son two years ago. She will be an indoor cat.

The breeder called and said the 12 week old kitten has a cold (or maybe a reaction from a 4 in 1 shot she received.)

I read that once a cat has a cold, they may never really shake the virus and occasionally are regularly sick or can spead the virus to other cats for a long time.

So given that, would you knowingly buy a cat that had a cold? Or wait for another litter with illness free kittens. Or am I wrong and that once a kitten has recovered from a cold she will not always be sick.

I'd wait until the cold has run its course, usually 7-10 days and longer for kittens and find out what type of cold it is. If she has herpes, she'd have recurrences all her life and I'm not sure if you'd want to deal with that. Pumkin has occassional outbreaks of herpes and the other 3 kitties has never caught it. Her outbreaks doesn't bother us one bit. If you have handled and fallen in love with the little girl, it would be very hard to give her up.

Hi. If I had already bonded with the kitten/cat then yes I would still adopt him/her.

I have fostered many Siamese who have gone onto their new homes with kitty colds BUT I would want this confirmed by a vet that it's only an upper respiratory infection AND medical treatment has been sought by the vet.
OR get an agreement from the breeder that she/he will pay for medical care once you pass money.

meant to add I once fostered a kitten for my local shelter that we nearly lost to a URI as she couldn't breathe well enough to nurse.
Anyway we got her through that and she was adopted by a good friend of mine. She got deathly ill, once again, once she was in their home. And she did have some problems for awhile. Their vet said she could possibly get ill on/off with no known reason why (some cats it's stress or being around another sick cat). Also her teeth are in horrible shape possibly from being so sick so young, so they'll have to deal with that at some point.
But now she's a big healthy girl and hasn't had a reoccurance in years (she's 4 years old).

I adopted my Siamese knowing she had a URI. She had just finished nursing kittens and was terribly rundown. I knew if I didn't take her there was a good possibility she was going to be put down. She was just fine after some fluids from the vet and a week of antibiotics. As Mary mentioned, I would want the vet to confirm it was definitely a cold or URI and not something else.
