Would you switch vets if...

I just got a new kitten, and my current vet can't see him for over a week because they are booked...and they keep giving me the excuse that they are getting a second doctor but I have been hearing that for a while. I want to get my new kittens aids and leukemia tests done because he currently has to be separated from my other until he has a clean test. Now we have to wait more than a week for basic services? Should I keep my current pets at this vet and get a new one for the new little guy?

Honestly, I would switch vets were I in your shoes.

Yes, sometimes our vet does have a wait of a week, for basic checkups and boosters. But if they ever say it'll be a week, and I let them know the situation and it's serious, then they'll work me in sooner. :)

I've used multiple vets for my different cats. I would get your new cat in somwhere else.

    Good luck!

for me it would depend on how much I trust a particular vet. On the other hand - what happens if you have a true emergency?
If you like this vet and feel he does right by your pets a week isn't so long....best to keep a new kitten separate from existing pets for 10-14 days anyway - so waiting 7 days for testing is no big deal.
And if he does hire another vet you can bet his prices will be climbing.
But I would be concerned about how long the wait would be for a true pet-related emergency.
Remember to bring a stool sample with you too so a fecal can be done to rule out any parasites on that end.
Maybe you could be put on a call list in case someone cancels an appointment

Well I am using Banfield, the pet hospital at PetSmart, because they have reasonably priced services, i.e. a wellness plan...basically a onetime 100 dollar fee and then 20 dollars a month to cover all routine stuff. When I got my puppy, I would say we spent at least $1000 at the vet in the first six months and I don't want to go through that again, so I guess I should stay with unless I notice lack of service, etc.

first I know absolutely nothing about the Banfield clinic....we don't even have a Petsmart around here BUT I participate in a lot of pet boards and I very seldom hear anyone say anything good about these clinics. Yes they do now and then have good vets (according to the people who post about them) but the posts I read most people feel like they are on an assembly line when it comes to their pet's care.
Again I have absolutely no personal experience with them this is only what I've read in posts on different pet boards.
It's like shopping at a national chain but it's pets' lives involved.

    What do you think?
Ive never known about Banfield and how well they are. Sounds like their somewhat understaffed maybe. I would call another local clinic and make an appointment. I'm pretty sure they could get you in sooner than a week.
